Sophie Labelle's Assigned Male - Original Thread - The Incredible Adventures of Stephie (Who Won't Shut Up About Being Trans)

Question: Why does the dad in earlier comic strips look like a dyke?

Which raises the point that no one in the comic world would realize "Stephie" is trans except for the fact he never shuts the fuck up about it.
Actually that's the weird thing about it. She looks like a girl, the only reason anyone gets annoyed is because she doesn't shut her mouth.

Same with Myrick, who is supposed to be a transman, except Myrick is at the age of puberty and should absolutely not have the masculine features he does, namely his chin. This is why the strips showing Stephie's struggle with her identity are so much better.

I think the major thing that pisses me off the most about this comic is literally all the bitching about gender roles. Like I can understand boys wanting to do girl stuff and girls wanting to do boy stuff. For all the bitching though all she's doing is saying people should stick to these strict roles.

No one talks or interacts like actual human beings in this comic. Hell, even Dobby Bear can write dialogue that I can imagine someone saying. But this? This is just a tumblr text post that someone drew a random comic around.

Holy shit, this kid is seriously one of the most overbearing, arrogant, self-absorbed, smarmiest little fucks I've ever seen.

She constantly goes on about nobody understanding her (which, to be fair, I can sympathize with) but never actually tries to help other people understand her; she just gets angry, threatens them, and/or lets out a constant stream of buzzwords that nobody can decipher. Instead of saying "Hey, I may have been born as a boy, but I truly feel as though I was placed in the wrong body and all I want to do is live as a girl," she goes "The fact that you're even questioning me is proof of the heteronormative patriarchy that oppresses all LGBTQIABBQWTFLOLTTYL++. And by the way, even implying that I am in any way, shape, or form male even though I have a penis is an offense on par with making oven jokes in front of a Holocaust survivor. It's just really clear to me that you feel like your masculinity is being threatened because you're insecure with your manliness blah blah blah...."

And her parents never get on her for talking back to adults and being rude, they're just like "OMG HONEY YOU'RE SO BRAVE AND INSPIRING AND FIERCE I CAN'T WAIT TO BRAG ABOUT YOU ON TUMBLR!!!" It's like she can do no wrong, which I think is the entire point.

I can't believe that this is a real thing. And that, judging by the notes it gets on Tumblr, people actually seem to support it.

What exactly is the message behind these comics? All I'm seeing here is an attempt to brainwash children with nonsense who would likely be unable to understand what these comics are trying to tell them in the first place.
If you keep being batshit, everyone will apologize and submit to you.

I don't get it. I shake hands with women, that shit is gender neutral.
You treat women as evil men! How DARE you!

At least she admits that God sent Stephie as a punishment to the sinners in her family.
Is not installing internet nanny software a sin in the eyes of God?

The other shitty thing about this comic is that it's like, the only interest the character has is being trans. That's it. It's like that's her whole identity. Most trans people are more than just being trans. They're not like, "Jane, the TRANS Chick." I know a trans woman who's a writer, another who's an engineer, etc. They may talk about gender roles, but usually when it's the topic that comes up -- they don't bring it up themselves. It's not like, "Oh hi, I'm TRANS!" Yeah, said person might be an activist for LBGT rights but that doesn't mean it's their entire life, or that they want to be known only as the TRANS person.

(Note I know them from another message board)

To be able to deal with other people there needs to be some give. There are always going to be people who don't understand you even if you are "normal." You need to be willing to explain yourself and help others understand. Are there going to be assholes? Yes, duh. But it is unnecessary and counterproductive to assume that every "normie" is out to get you and oppress you. I've been guilty of misjudging people before, but it was not out of malice. It is because I'm only human and I am not always going to have all the answers nor do I have time to learn every little detail about the people around me (and that would just be creepy). It is not always personal.

A lot of people like this, I've noticed, can't seem to understand why others might see things differently while demanding that those same people MUST see things their way or they are hurtful bigots.

It's like the concept that, no, most people are never going to be able to understand your issues as a trans person simply because they aren't trans, is just too much to handle and it's easier just to call people bigots than realize when they may be putting forward an effort, but literally have no more basis to understand being trans than a trans person does about being cis.

Irony point, crazy trannies exhibit the EXACT same behaviour they disparage in normal people: inability to view things from another perspective. Trans people have no basis for comparison towards normals, normal people don't have a basis of comparison for trannys.

The only way to change opinions on things is to use a little bit of empathy, and reach out. It's not THAT hard to frame being transgender into something a normal person understands, it just takes a modicum of effort. I've found that doing so has created more allies for the LGBT cause than being a gender asshole has.

A newspaper covered the webcomic: http://i100.independent.co.uk/artic...trans-is-as-funny-as-it-is-moving--e1BYpa7djg
Also I guess the author doesn't care the comic goes over the head of its intended audience:
I’m touched every time a parent tell me that even though their child do not understand most of it, they are fans of the comic since the main character is like them. I think it shows how a positive trans portrayal is more than necessary

WHY GARY COLEMEN?
A tumblrite asking a white straight CIS male to kiss them as a greeting? Don't do it uncle Matt it's a trap!
