Apparently the plan is to photograph the tents and their contents, post it on a website, and let people claim their stuff from there. The protesters are bitching that they can't go get their stuff now, and that the homeless people "are losing everything they own".

Its not the police clearing the tends and stuff its SDOT. Police seem to only be providing protection to SDOT and securing areas before SDOT goes in.

I'd agree with this. Elements of the central district can get shady and some will lump that into Capitol Hill wrongly too. My opinion/agreement on that all predates Chop though which is clearly completely unsafe to go through at night.

Even what used to be the worst part of the city, 23rd and Union, is all brand new condos and apartments now even though there's still shootings. And even that wasn't so bad even when Nickelsville had a location there. The Philly Sub shop kept getting shot up and didn't both original owners who were brothers get killed years apart, but eventually Uncle Ike's opened there and Central Cinema is down near there and Cappy's old location, it was totally sketchy, but that whole stretch of Union got a lot better once Deano's on Madison went bye bye about 15 years ago. Anyone remember that place? I think it's all condos and gyms there now.

None of these places hold a candle to parts of Ranier Beach at night. You're taking your life into your own hands down there.
