Depends on where you go. Meeting migrants is cheating, as they're almost always going to be a cut above the rest who didn't have the capacity or means to abandon their people to their fate.

Compassion can be a great weakness, but it takes a truly vile person to exploit it.

Maybe 30-40 years ago, but its very rare to see them walking around not all done up in their traditional garb and exclusively going to indian restaurants or indian owned businesses. Sometimes they'll do something different like order a vegetarian pizza, but they still won't tip.
Migrants are a cut above the rest but they will have witnessed the fate of the ones who couldn't move away. Nigerians can tell you what true poverty looks like, Indians can tell you about extreme pollution and Cubans can tell you about the horrors of communism. It's not as educative as seeing it firsthand but it's a start. Video related, a Venezuelan.

Unfortunately, the world is full of vile people. Showing compassion to strangers who can use that compassion to hurt you is a bad idea, no matter their skin color.

You might be right about first generation immigrants not adapting very well, at least during the first few years. After a certain age learning a new language and adopting new customs becomes harder, you can't teach an old dog new tricks and all that. Second and third generation immigrants tend to be closer to American culture than their parents, though. I've heard of second generation kids being absolutely appalled by the place their parents came from.

But of course Redditors are allergic to subtelty and can't help but powerlevel, because that site is designed for exhibitionism. It's not an exchange of ideas, it's a competition for upvotes and awards to see who can have the most tragic backstory. That's why evertyone fell for that 14 year old cancer trick, that's why pictures of ugly pets or disabled people always make it to the front page with hundreds of awards. The people giving shiny avatars that cost real money are like those guys who sit in the front row at the strip club cramming 20s into a stripper's asscrack: they want attention just as much as the person making a performamce of themselves in the OP.

Already there are womyn fishing for sympathy in the saidit sub. Most of what's on there right now are articles and people congregating to the new site, but bets on how long it'll take until a good portion of the posts are "I personally am affected by this and it's a great injustice to me"

Thinking about it after a while, even still standing with what I said before, I'm going with my usual take when it comes to this subject matter: if Plebbit wants to censor itself into irrelevancy, let them. Reddit is one such place that only exists for user generated written word content, they don't host music, movies, vidya (to my knowledge) or anything else that could protect their value. They'll just go the way of MySpace and Digg if they keep it up and keep it up they will, because this will spiral into a puritanical nightmare that will make Reddit hostile & adversarial to anyone trying to use it. How are they going to check to see if a user is a white person or not? They can't, so they'll just purge left and right until nobody's left. Not many people will want to use a website that's actively antagonistic toward anyone giving it a chance, and that's exactly where this is destined to go.

They're a news aggregator, so to a certain degree manufacturing consent is actually big business for them. It remains to be seen if people will abandon them over this, but it's in keeping with most news aggregation sources to be this partisan.

Yeah, I saw this fuckery. Some of the most shallow race-marketing I've ever seen, and absolutely vomit worthy.

I mean, my god, literally attempting to profit off of a tragedy by making a toy based on the victim??? We've enough of that from Christianity's sado-masochistic bullshit Jesus figures. We don't need any more, thank you.

Well it was probably a troll post, but it was a good one.

As terrible as Reddit is I think that had to be a troll. The OP seems too on the nose with his soy post. Maybe I'm being optimistic with that assessment, but I smell bullshit. Even the Funkopop consoomers replying to him were calling him out.
Definitely a troll post but a funny one. And some people in the comments are saying how it could be a good idea to make a BLM funko pop so it got arguments.

My only question is, will Saidit have a lot of new users as well, since I have Saidit originally as a back up in case Reddit croaks.
