The country is now suffering a huge recession and various cities (NYC and Chicago especially) have ongoing major violent crime waves. You're enormously underselling the damage done by the current riots. It wasn't just some property destruction, but the total breakdown of rule of law in some urban areas.

Constitution and laws were not written in German, in fact there was a push to get them to be written in both english and german pre ww1 and at the time it was considered adding another official language. Our country was designed to allow you to speak any language you want and the state, pre civil war, were supposed to have authority on these decision but the language used to write the framework for our country is the official language.
