They all seem to have a need to sour public opinion on Hansen, don't they? I try to understand why it is they all seem so personally invested in this "cause" to such a degree they are willing to try and vindicate fucking GREG if it means discrediting Hansen. In my humble opinion it all comes down to jealousy, bruised egos, feeling threatened, and entitlement.
Hansen was able to use his position as a cultural icon to gain quick success on YouTube at the time he began focusing on Greg. I think this bothered many of these low/mid-level commentary channels because Hansen is an "old-media" figure. A lot of creators on all corners of YouTube have expressed negative feelings towards traditional celebrities and media personalities being on the platform. So I think it's reasonable to apply that sentiment to at least some of the commentary channels doing constant negative Hansen content.
Hansen also has decades of experience in investigative journalism. He is a very skilled interviewer. I've seen interviews done by several of these same mid/low-level commentary channels and while they range in skill, one factor I've noticed with nearly all of them is that in their interviews, they have way too much interest in conveying their own thoughts and opinions when they should really be listening to who it is their interviewing. If the interview shifts towards being more conversational, the interviewee may clam up as some individuals are naturally submissive/passive/unsure in conversations. That's why GOOD interviews are structured in a way that gives the interviewee direct questions to respond to, resulting in the quality of information being much better. Let's say that Lainey has finally left Greg and was interested in telling her story. Who would you rather conduct the interview, Hansen or Repzion? Creepshow or Hansen? Edwin or Hansen? John Swan or Hansen?
Some of these creators who have been vocal about their disdain for Hansen seem to have expected he act in a way that expresses his position as being lower on the totem pole. Like he should be subservient to them because they perceive themselves as being the fucking arbiters of commentary or something? Creepshow made a comment about how Hansen, a complete stranger, should have used his personal free-time to make a public statement acknowledging "Edwin's" criticism of him because "Edwin" is his superior and outranks him on the platform. Of course, by "Edwin" she means herself, allowing her to make her (idiotic) point without showing her true narcassism.
And the fact that Hansen is now apparently in talks with ID Discovery regarding their interest in his coverage of Onision really chapped their asses. Repzion said something about how Hansen used HIS information which is categorically incorrect. It was Hansen who interviewed the victims. It was Hansen who interviewed Detective Ed Troyer, resulting in confirmation of an existing criminal investigation. It was Hansen's name that brought MSM interest. So whatever there is going on with Hansen and ID Discovery has to do with his name recognition and the way he specifically presented his Onision content. How delusional is Repzion to believe it had anything to do with him. Not only that, but Repzion openly expressed that he feels he is entitled to the Onision story because he'd been covering it so long or something? I'm sorry, what? IIRC Stevie had been doing content on Greg before Repzion. Not only that, but he did actual research and brought new information to his videos in a time WAY before Onision critical content was profitable. I'm legit baffled that this scumbag Repzion SERIOUSLY feels entitled to a whole-ass other person's life? Beyond that, I can't think of a single instance where Repzion has provided new information in all the years he's covered Greg. It was so obvious he got all of his content from the farms and Twitter and did little to no additional research into the information he found. A huge example of this was when he did a video about the wetlands saga and got wrong the absolute most basic, most relevant piece to that story. He referred to the fucking wetlands as Greg's property, not just in name for simplicity's sake, but totally did not know that the destruction Greg did was on government owned and protected property. That's like the core fucking issue! He put together this whole fucking video without doing even the most basic research because had he even begun to look into it that would have been immediately clear. Repzion could not have made himself look like more of a spiteful, immature, unprofessional, irrational weakling.
EDIT: I really didn't intend to write a novel here or present myself as some Hansen warrior cause I'm not. It's just that to me, the behavior of these commentary channels is so much worse. They're acting on emotion, whether it be their feelings of inadequacy/entitlement/jealousy, yet they try to present their stance as having come from a place of logic and facts. That's what bothers me.

These drama channels are money hungry and hansen doing this deal with discovery really shows how quickly dramatubers will manipulate the viewers opinion for a quick buck and click, no matter what the consequences are.
Washington state is two party consent for recording calls, and I wouldn't be shocked if swan faces some legal heat for recording that clerk without permission.

I've never been a fan of Repzion but after he backtracked over contacting Lainey's parents I realised he was never anything more than an opportunistic fool.
These commentators have a real fucking issue with flipping their opinions and beliefs based on their audience yet have the nerve to snack of Hansen's remains after the attention he brought to this.
You can't be taken seriously if you're a flake, which all of these people are. I agree, I think a lot of it is jealousy. That's why they often bring up the fact he's ''washed up'' and a ''failed journalist'' despite that not really being true.

After he lost all of his credability in media cicrcles for various reasons, including his fraud charges, he was set to make himself a YouTuber and leeched on the platform for dear life... My first encounter of Chris Hansen on YouTube was not the Onision case.

There is a YouTuber - MistaGG, who at the begining of his career made commentary videos on the Hansen vs. Predetor series. A lot of people liked his style and humor on the subject so these series became really popular.
When Chris Hansen made his YouTube account and saw all of this, he reached to MistaGG and asked him how he did it, how did he make this old-ass show so popular again.
The attention he brought to the series and his viewers' interest in the show was one of the reasons Chris wanted to continue the series on YouTube. There are many claims the fundraising for this project was a scam and in the end Chris was unable to do shit without the team he once had behind him.
So, while interviewing MistaGG he was so smug and very condescending to him (I think he said something among the lines that he's basically MistaGG's boss), while at the same time asking him for guidance and of course, saying he doesn't understand why he is so succesful.
