People have to get over shit that makes them uncomfortable. For convoluted reasons, there was a period of time that I was extremely uncomfortable with anything involving something eating something else, especially whole. During this same period of time, I was big into League of Legends and they had just released a character called Tahm Kench - a big catfish monster who swallowed things whole. I couldn't play the game at all during the first week he was out (new characters get played constantly when they're novel), but eventually said fuck it and bought him myself to play. I discovered very quickly his ability to pull enemies off fragile teammates ('peeling') jived very well with my playstyle and I adopted him as main role. It also helped enormously with not being made uncomfortable by that shit.

You must have especially hated the Kirby games because that's all that little fucker does is eat things whole.

Lmao, I must've power been a little too obvious, as my account is on some sort of permanent probation - the timer keeps updating to reflect the current one. Rapsheet still shows previous bans, but no sign of this latest.

Yeah, that’s just how SA rolled back then, though. Almost every dev that they made fun of (Derek, Tom Hall, Cliffy B, etc) was in on the joke. Half of them had forums accounts

Yup. And we all just rolled with it. The Desktop Commander was the height of comedy Gold back in the day.

Even that lunatic JeffK who made the Smartyman survivor comic was in on it. What happened to that dude btw?

I think years of managing a lolcow forum have not been kind to you.

I'd been that way since I was about 17, and Tahm came out in 2015. However you think of me today, I was much worse as a teenager.

Is the stuff about Iban and the Blockland forum true? Because that would explain a lot.

(Apologies for slightly offtopic)

Derek, there’s one thing I’ve always been curious about and I never thought I’d be in a place to ask someone who might know, but what did Carmack and Romero ever think about SA (early 2000s SA, obviously)? Do you know? I’m not sure if they were in your clique back then, but I’ve always wondered if they were in on the joke too.

Like, I know that Tom Hall was in on it because he’d said as much but I never remember Carmack or Romero mentioning SA. PlanetQuake, yes, but SA I dunno. I wasn’t following plan files and stuff by then.

I'm pretty sure that JeffK fell into a well.

Good to see you here Derek. Keep on keeping on. 👍

Is this the backstory of your vore fetish?

I enjoy the coda to the title. Those tick things were cool.
