Even if some of these are just allegations and are not true, some of these other allegations being possible have already destroyed any reputation these groups have left. Companies don't want to get involved in their mess and even the big names attached to these communities are starting to leave in droves. It's safe to say they don't have much left and if they try to rebuild they'll have to rebrand and do their damnedest to separate themselves from these assholes (which, sadly isn't going to be possible considering what we're talking about here). And even then, that stigma is going to carry the community forever. It's never going to escape them until it dies or destroys itself even more.

These people were lucky that their stigma was for being spergy and not showering was what most normies got out of it. Now they have to deal with major players of their communities being creeps. Can you imagine the amount of trolling that's going to hit these communities if they try to rebrand? Any chance they had of making something for themselves is completely gone. I can't see anyone taking them seriously at this point and from what we see, their major supporters won't do the same either.

Good timing, I was about to make a post on exactly this:

Watching the (second) Captain Zack situation unfurl in social media has been very telling to me. People are pretty ignorant about the difference between being gay and being gay, and the Smash scene has been so very Californian for so long I knew something like this would "come out" eventually.
Yet, even given the pretty unique set of circumstances embroiling the several illicit gay romances that got busted, they're somehow being treated exactly like all of the other cases of underage gamers™ being assaulted by Smash-having adults, and not as something much more insidious.
Don't let the socially awkward Smash Community and what few estranged homosexuals it can muster fool you: everything Captain Zack, and Nairo, and Salem, and Ally did, and have done since, are well within the bounds of normal gay behavior. Twink culture lives and thrives off of underage targets, who either aggressively seek other men or expect to be wooed with cash prizes. It's awful, illegal, not rare in the slightest, and nearly entirely unaddressed by the general public.

Keep that in mind when you're sifting through the clusterfuck of drama, the accusations true or false, the subterfuge, and the roiling autism unique to people who take a party game way too seriously. The cases involving underage, effeminate males who initiated, tied it to finances, and made it a "regular thing", are the exact cases where everyone involved confessed immediately, who said they thought it was all just a fun kink, and said they didn't think they were doing anything wrong until it was "too late"- that's because by the standards of the culture, they weren't. Gay forums and bulletins have been trying to root out these pedophiles for decades, gay hookup apps are complicit in it because that's most of their userbase by the numbers, it's a real problem.
On the plus side, LGBT activists haven't swept in to decree the bans "homophobic" yet, which is an absolute relief. Usually they'd show up right around now.

No one is going to call out Zack for being hypocritical, a blackmailer, and an instigator because they are using a frankly "heteronormative" lens. No one can imagine a teenage girl pulling shit like that, being the instigator and blackmailer... at least, not unless she were mentally ill- and yet no one's recommending Zack be institutionalized. Why the fuck not?

The number of people who are shocked and appalled at the idea of a minor bragging about seducing an older person is heartwarming. I sincerely hope they never have to touch this shit with a ten foot pole.

If people don't wise up to why exactly this keeps happening, when filming is done and the trailer is ready, it'll start with "Everyone is Here!"
Given the sheer quantity of sex offenders coming out of this bust, when the dust has settled, there should be enough faces for at least a parody of the Melee opening.

I'll admit I don't engage with any smash content creators, but after seeing the replies to ZeRo's statement, I'm going to have to agree that he's going to be the one hanging from a rope soon. Over a million subscribers with an upward trend, to people who have talked to him personally saying "stay gone". Social media and it's consequences have been a disaster to the human race, truly.
