Here’s why we celebrate the Fourth of July:
- It’s when the United States declared itself independent from the British Empire
- The Revolutionary War helped free colonists from British tyranny (such as not having representation in Parliament and having unfair taxation)
- The colonists that fought the Revolutionary War were fighting the strongest military of the time and managed to win
- After years of the Articles of Confederation, the Constitution was ratified in 1789, which included things such as the Bill of Rights and separation of powers
- With the way the government was set up with the Constitution, it allowed for more amendments to be added, which insured that with changing times, that the government could work with it
Not everything was perfect, but by diminishing the accomplishments of the United States independence from the British Empire, you are diminishing the strides in society that were made possible
because of the way the government was set up by the Founding Fathers.
Also, I recommend reading
Common Sense by Thomas Paine. It’s a short, but important book on exactly why the United States fought the British Empire.
