One of the bigger hurdles of mental illness, and I say this as someone who has dealt with it, is the inability to see past your own pain. The wall of anxiety/depression/etc becomes such a thick barrier that considering other perspectives is a struggle. However, you must rejoin the human race. Yes, you are sick, but you cannot use your ailment as a crutch. Your hurt brain does not absolve you of annoying everyone around you.
I see this in a lot of REE posters. A lot of them are clearly mentally ill, but they breathe reassurance that they are the only correct humans in a 'bigot' universe. It breeds a culture of pure narcissism. I imagine their lives outside REE are chaotic, as they drive family members and even close friends frustrated to the point of tears. But to the hurt brains, they are safe inside their "Us versus them" tree fort.
In the case of the REE Trans elite, this is what created It is Ma'am versus the hapless GameStop employee.
