For people who are prone to ear infections (I was terribly prone to them as a kid), getting water in the ears often causes ear infections. Doctors will often suggest or even prescribe plugs in such cases, especially if inner ear tubes are required (had three sets as a kid). But staying out of the pool is a much easier option. Showering typically isn't enough to get an infection since there isn't water pressure pushing water down into the ear canal like there is when you're in a pool and dunk your head under.

And who else is pressing X to doubt over Louie showering? I am. Though, I have no doubts that he's lounging around in pools and hot tubs when he gets the opportunity. Wearing swim trunks, obviously, since he never actually presents himself as female.

Louie would be the kind of asshole who would waste doctors time and insured people's money by going to the ER for having too much wax in his ear. Ever wonder why it's so expensive to go to the hospital? It's because of uninsured people like Louie going to the ER, can't afford the bill and have no insurance, so they work it out with the hospital to pay a pittance and the hospital passes they payment off to those who are insured by increasing their costs. Now, I've got no problem with poor people doing that when they really need medical care. I'm not a hearless bastard, and everyone needs to see the doctor at some point. But when it's a selfish, lazy, jobless loser like Lard-ass Louie who go for shit that they could take care of themselves or by going to a general practitioner, then it pisses me off because it's such a waste of time and resources that should be going to people who have real emergency medical needs.

He refuses to get a job, so no employer is providing it, and I don't know of any insurer who is willing to extend insurance to the 36 year old child of the policy holders unless they're still a dependent due to severe handicap. So he's either gotta be getting welfare/tardbux somehow, or he's lying his ass off yet again.

If you have an ear infection, why not...go to a doctor? The emergency room is, as the name would suggest, for emergencies. Unless his ear is in crippling pain or he's gone deaf, its not an emergency. In my experience its always cheaper to visit a doctor over going to the ER, with or without insurance, so expect significant begging soon.

Edit: I mean, neat that you're both denying and confirming that it's a trans thing, though I think that one of the consistent things about trans people is that they find a name that they feel most aligned with and just stick with it regardless of who mocks you. We call it an identity crisis because you change this stuff on a weekly basis with the only consistency being choosing either Diana or Ace as your name half the time.
