I hope that the anime industry rises from the ashes in the upcoming years. Sheesh, there was so much potential back in 2010 with Noitamina stuff like Psycho Pass and Tatami Galaxy or features like the Disappearance of Haruhi. Sad that it got all commercial.

You can't survive without being commerial. This ain't the golden age anymore where money was being thrown around willy-nilly. The problem is the anime industry trying to survive on blu-ray sales and merch (especially in Asia, look to 4chan's buyfag threads on how hard it to get merch from Japan when it's made in limited quantity), which leads to waifu-pandering, which Franxx did excellently, even if they they had to make a mix between Asuka from EVA and Yuno from Mirai Nikki with a bit more believable romance thrown in. Ichigo being a jealous go getter with no special perks make her an even better character imo.

The anime industry can't continue the way it's been operating for over 20 years anymore. More studios need to open up the west through streaming and donation models; not just Trigger. You can say what you want about Trigger, such as always fucking up endings to shows, but they have way better connections and openness than other studios. Maybe they just know how to ride the hype, but other studios should take notes.

EDIT: Include in that that Chinese studios are hiring voiceactors and artists from Japan for mobage and anime (or whatever form of weebspeak chinese anime is called) at BETTER salaries. Do your research people. Even the Chinese realized that Japanese is a more popular language for anime-ish shows and games.

I really love the PCP lectures, but the more I learn about PCP the more I have to keep that in a separate part of my brain from the people themselves. Especially Ben Saint (privileged white antifa wannabe with very little understanding of reality) and now Digi. For real, I think he's mentally ill and needs therapy. You aren't supposed to be like this. I bet a week or two with medical help, therapy, and lithium would begin to straighten him out, but these days we just have to accept that it's cool for a man to pretend to be a 2d loli. I'm not gonna lie, watching this whole saga unfold has been equal parts entertaining and sad to me. Digi was someone I respected in a way. He was able to build a nice career talking about what he wanted to talk about and acting how he wanted to act. I even cited one of his videos in an essay as an example of how hardcore Otaku can live normal and happy lives a few months ago. That essay looks pretty silly in retrospect. He reminds me alot of myself, especially when he broadcasts his destructive side. The difference is, the alcoholism, weed abuse and projection on anime characters is something I confronted and moved on from. Digi is kinda like looking into a warped mirror of myself and seeing what I could've become.

I guess this is to say that at one point, I wanted to be like him. Just be able to make a living writing about anime and games and whatnot. Seeing him go crazy just from doing that is definitely discouraging in it's own way.

I used to look up to Digi too. There's something alluring about what he used to represent to people like you and I. Among all the artificial lowest-common denominator pandering anitubers, he was one of the few who stayed true to themselves and was proof you could make it big doing so. Maybe not as big as some other anitubers, but sizable nonetheless. I felt a deeper connection to him whenever he'd open up about his tumultuous past because I had also moved constantly and lacked social skills. I was secretly holding out for him, but he's now gone past the point of no return, and it's only going to get worse for him after HRT. It's quite saddening to see such a pioneer in content creation destroy himself and push his audience away.

I guess this is to say that at one point, I wanted to be like him. Just be able to make a living writing about anime and games and whatnot. Seeing him go crazy just from doing that is definitely discouraging in it's own way.

If anything, you should view people like Digibro as cautionary tales of what not to do when your a content creator. There will always be those who let their fame and fortune get to them, and there will always be those who have enough support and self-control to avoid entering self-destructive downward spirals. It all depends on the kind of person you are.

Honestly, from what I've heard about how long it takes for him to finish editing one video, that might even be the case. I would love to know the timeline on his recent edited stuff like the Smash vids (including the one from 2 weeks ago)

I don't really like WIAGW in general but I would hate the concept of his channel becoming centered on them a lot less if he was at least consistent with them. He didn't really seem like the type of person to let himself go like this. But maybe he just likes to present himself as a super productive person and I fell for it like an idiot.
