I don't think so, but ok.
Trump could say and do so much but he lacks the understanding or intelligence to do so. I voted for Trump (something I won't admit in real life) and probably will again. He could cogently call out BLM and discuss its true underlying ideology, the sort of "postmodern" marxism popular in academia that relies more on personal testimony and narrative than more objective study and discipline but he simply lacks that capability. I think Trump deserves a far better shake than the media provides, but that doesn't make him """based""".
I don't. I feel like doomers just lie down and wait for the inevitable. I can't. I live in a pretty red state so there's not a lot I can do. My parents already know the score and are on the Trump train. I subscribe to optimism because it proactive and allows me to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I feel like the doomer mindset doesn't allow for that. To me, Doomer is just a black void that envelopes everything. I chose optimism because its the saner option. I don't have my head buried in the sand. I'm aware of the realities of the world. But this too shall pass. American has been through worst shit and made it out fine.
But to each their own.
I live in a very red state. Today, I saw a huge ACLU billboard in my cities busiest intersection taking a position on a controversial local BLM-related issue that really isn't so cut and dry, multiple BLM bumper stickers, a black man wearing a "BLACK MEN MATTER" T-shirt (felt like acting offended it excluded black women just to fuck with him) , and see things like this constantly. And this was just me on the way to Chipotle and then the park to sit and eat it.
We're doomers not because we take pessimism by default, but because we have read a lot of history, have dipped our toes into many cultural waters, and have talked to all sorts of people outside of our comfort zone, and we know where things are headed and it's so fucking ugly and inescapable.
This too shall pass? Think about the goddamn cultural forces shapingpeople's behavior and beliefs! We have fucking DOJACAT having fucking 140 million views on youtube; why should I expect the populace to suddenly realize BLM is a quasi-Marxist movement based on black separatist ideology? You think "the people" are really rational and smart and golly gee wiz they'll just come to their sense eventually right guys? They swallow up this shit from popular culture now, but suddenly their brains will magically change to question?
Dude, we are so fucked. This is a history-changing event. We're going to be equated to those numbskulls protesting the end of segregation. This is the new narrative, from now 'til the end of history, we're just the ""lucky"" few that see the actual truth. All the cultural forces... politics, media, news, music, internet, even your fucking goddman bank is telling you how woke you need to be.
Even if it does get better... when? Life's a lot shorter than you realize. 10 years is short in the scheme of things, but not in terms of a human life. You're young, I assume; do you want to live your best years hiding your views and being unable to date because everyone you meet spews the same propaganda? Do you want to go through life hiding yourviews from your friends that just accept what they're told to accept? Most of us on KF are young and we are going to spend our best years in a fucking batshit postmodernist zeitgeist of wannabe revolutionary edgelords willing to murder and kill to win twitter and instragram brownie points. The influence of the internet is a VERY new thing in human history and I see nothing that can end this trajectory any more than I can see good music and movies being made once again. I've been doing this my entire life, friend, I'm not quire at midlife yet but I'm getting there and I'm so afraid because there's no one around I can talk to or identify with and all I have are my cousin in another part of the world and random friends on the internet and maybe a local person here or there that might have time for me once in awhile. I can't imagine it could be any better for anyone else with even remotely similar views and dispositions to me.
“There will be no curiosity, no enjoyment of the process of life. All competing pleasures will be destroyed. But always— do not forget this, Winston— always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face— forever. ” -- George Orwell
