I dislike that people stigmatize people who have relationships with large (say a decade or more) age gaps, like 30 year olds with 50 year olds and the like.

I dislike how the education system separates children into age-based cohorts, creating lots of little fake subcultures and stunting their intellectual growth and ability to relate to people more than a few years older or younger than them.

I dislike how teenagers and even early-20s, now, are called “children” and coddled until it makes them useless.

I think the entire way we treat age is toxic.

There you go, you assumed what I was saying without having read it.

On the age gap matter, I think there’s disadvantages to it but that it’s not morally wrong, speaking in reference to adults. A lot of people have this idea that it’s wrong in some way, even if legal, for adults to have 10-20 years between them. Basically, we suppose people ought to be in the same generation as their significant other.

But, just because something isnt immoral that doesn’t mean it’s a desirable course of action. Age gaps introduce a potential hardship on the younger partner and possibly the older one too.

One difference between legislating against teen-adult relationships and young adult-old adult relationships is obviously that we assume that the two adults are both wise enough, even if one is much older than the other, to bear the consequences of their choice. There’s also trade offs in every choice, and if somebody feels that the benefits of pairing off with somebody much older exceeds the losses of them being much older, than it is a reasonable decision.

I see similarities between age gap marriages and interracial marriages. Neither is immoral, and both can be good ideas under favorable circumstances. But both add in complications which could be avoided by marrying within your own group.

My objection basically isn’t to people discouraging age gap marriage, it’s to people looking down on and insulting people who do make that choice.
