I don’t understand why troons can’t figure this out. A troon who wears men’s clothes just looks like a dude. Given how hard it is to pass, you’d think they’d figure this out.

It's clear that if Zach hadn't met his substitute mommy and trooned out, he'd be in the gay leather scene by now and probably be a lot more laid-back and chill about his sexuality. He wouldn't have to be so desperate to convince people he belongs in his clothes.

It probably does suck to thirst that hard for dick and be stuck in a sexless "lesbian" marriage. Ever since Penny escaped on the troon underground railroad, Zach's black heart has shriveled up like his lady dick. It's no wonder he's so nasty to everyone. His life sucks. And now it sucks even worse because his paypig is useless and people keep expecting him to act like a loving spouse and take care of Heather.
I can't believe he is still preparing to go to college. How is he going to pay for that? I can't imagine he has a full ride. He could have qualified for grants, I guess, but most grants only cover a fraction of tuition. He's going to need to take out loans and, without a co-signer, that will be tough. Maybe clown daddy will help him out.
But assuming he does get a degree, if he gets a job, it would impact Heather's benefits. So, Zach getting a degree certainly means either a) saddling the family with more debt that won't be repaid because he won't work or b) dumping Heather once he actually gets a job. Heather needs to kick him to the curb before he does any more damage. The kids should live with their dad and Heather should move in with her parents. Zach should choke on a dick.

I'm sure the kids' dad in Norway is sweating right now.
He thought he'd gotten out of the whole parenting rigamarole except on a very part-time basis when the divorce happened and he moved back to the old country. Six weeks of summer vacation with the boys every year means you don't have to care too much about the influences happening back in the USA, since these kids fundamentally just aren't your problem for very long and would be about 0% likely to move to Norway and have an impact after age 18. There's no way he planned to keep sending for them when they had reached adulthood.
Now, he's staring down the barrel of single parenthood. The only things standing between him and having to actually engage in daily care routines for the children he spawned is the clot-ridden brain of his ex-wide and the conscientiousness of a Twitter troon who hates children. Heather's medical condition is now a sword of Damocles hanging over his head for the next few years, until the kids have aged out of being minors and he can just shrug them off.

Even if Zach managed to get a degree, there is no job waiting for him. He has no job history, is in his 30s and has an internet footprint consisting of insane statements, drug abuse and porn. He could get a PhD and the only thing waiting for him is student loan debt.

He wouldn't owe child support since he isn't legally a parent of the children. It might have been possible to get alimony from Heather before her strokes, but there's no way a judge is going to make a disabled woman pay a man who is not disabled alimony.

How long have they been married? Permanent alimony's very rare in Florida for marriages shorter than 10+ years but it's possible he might get some "bridge the gap" funds.
