President Trump wore a mask during his visit to Walter Reed hospital on Saturday, marking the first time he has done so in front of cameras.
Trump visited the medical center in Maryland to meet with wounded soldiers and health care staff who have been caring for COVID-19 patients.

The president, who has been reluctant to wear a mask in public, indicated earlier in the week he would do so at Walter Reed.
DEVELOPING

Kind of wondering, but who wore it better?

"If patients die of other shit that isn't COVID and we don't test them for COVID then how can we blame COVID instead of what actually kills them?"

Friendly reminder heart disease kills 400,000-600,000 per year.
You know, I've always wondered if most of these deaths, if not half are unrelated to covid 19

Can we shut the fuck up about how it's America's problem? Sweden's the only country in the western hemisphere that's NOT exactly as bad—if not WORSE—than what our politicians here are doing.
Sweden is the unexpected hero in the late hour.

When most of the world turned to authoritarianism and fear-mongering in the name of "society" and "the greater good"; it was Sweden who stood fast for personal liberty.
I never thought I would shill for Sweden of all places, but I have never been so wrong.

WHEN'S THIS SHIT GOING TO FUCKING END :cryblood:
At the rate they keep pussy footing with reopening and shutting down whenever a new "spike" occurs, months at least.

We should be much further along than we are, but the state governors are either too cowardly to bring this to an end or too eager to keep fucking with their constituent's livelihoods (after all, they're not in danger of getting their income cut, so they don't empathize for those on the brink of losing everything). Much worse outbreaks and pandemics had happened in the past without leaders wanting to tank the economy in the name of "safety", so I don't get what makes this one so special.

The only silver lining I can see is the governors becoming so despised that they get voted out in the elections.

To his credit, Florida Man is refusing to budge on the idea of a second lockdown. If letting this thing burn out is a legitimate strategy, we'll find out based on how that state goes. It's going to be ugly as hell in the interim though.

I can’t believe these ding-a-lings can’t figure out that their “spikes” are exactly the result of more testing available.

They are being played like a fiddle by their Health Directors in spite of their incompetency being continuously proven during this shit show.

Well, they’re government employees so we can’t really expect more, can’t we?

I don’t expect anything from the Blue governors, but the Red ones, my God. Is there no brain cells left in these guys? Mostly disappointed by Texas, Arkansas and Florida.

WHEN'S THIS SHIT GOING TO FUCKING END :cryblood:
When 1 of 3 things happen:

1. It’s politically expedient to do so (tax money runs out) but expect“new normal” to be spouted out a lot.

2. When people grow a pair and refuse to be treated this way. (Unlikely).

3. Likely a combination of 1 and 2. Or it really is captain trips and we’ll all be dead anyway.

stood fast for personal liberty
Someone told me that such is "arrogant" because of the pandemic.

Corrupt people in positions of power must be loving that so many are turning to authoritarianism and giving up liberty for safety*, because of this seemingly endless "New Normal"...

*(remember that one Benjamin Franklin quote?)

There won't be any ashes for society to rise from, because this isn't the plague. The plagues wiped out entire households, a lot of them. Covid kills the sick and the very old, and gives others a bad coof for a few weeks. Each death is a tragedy, and the cooffing will have an economic impact, but the effect on society as a whole will be negligible.

I signed up for a vaccine trial. I haven't heard back from them yet. I just want to do my part. I figure, best case scenario, I get immunity before everyone else. Worst case scenario, I get autism. Either way, I forward the cause of science.

Working Memory Capacity Predicts Individual Differences in Social Distancing Compliance during the COVID-19 Pandemic in the U.S.
Noncompliance with social distancing during the early stage of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic poses a great challenge to the public health system. These noncompliance behaviors partly reflect people’s concerns for the inherent costs of social distancing while discounting its public health benefits. We propose that this oversight may be associated with the limitation in one’s mental capacity to simultaneously retain multiple pieces of information in working memory (WM) for rational decision making that leads to social-distancing compliance. We tested this hypothesis in 850 United States residents during the first 2 wk following the presidential declaration of national emergency because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We found that participants’ social-distancing compliance at this initial stage could be predicted by individual differences in WM capacity, partly due to increased awareness of benefits over costs of social distancing among higher WM capacity individuals. Critically, the unique contribution of WM capacity to the individual differences in social-distancing compliance could not be explained by other psychological and socioeconomic factors (e.g., moods, personality, education, and income levels). Furthermore, the critical role of WM capacity in social-distancing compliance can be generalized to the compliance with another set of rules for social interactions, namely the fairness norm, in Western cultures. Collectively, our data reveal contributions of a core cognitive process underlying social-distancing compliance during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting a potential cognitive venue for developing strategies to mitigate a public health crisis.

This study is dumb and useless as science, but its bound to be cited in the media to ridicule and shame anyone who pushes back. I mean, anyone except rioters and terrorists, they'll still get a free pass.

Lower cognitive ability linked to non-compliance with social distancing guidelines during the coronavirus outbreak
