I wonder if it would be better to bite the bullet and go full normal- let the virus burn itself out and society will rise from the ashes, like the one-time inevitability of plague in European cities.
I'd compare this more to a bad flu season than a plague, but we should do that more or less.

Maybe gradually tamp it up over the Summer, and have everything back to normal by the time school starts.

Sure, the "experts" and doomsayers will think that's too "dangerous", but the economy will be far less likely to collapse.

As previously mentioned ITT, Governor Whitmer has ordered the populace to wear masks under penalty of $500 fines.
The Sherrif of Van Buren County, on the southwest side of the state, has announced that "We will dedicate our services to investigating crimes against persons and property and we will not pull valuable resources away from that to investigate complaints against the Governor’s Executive Orders." He advises concerned citizens to contact the State Police or the Attorney General.
The police department of Bad Axe, in the Thumb, made a similar statement, with similar advice for concerned citizens.

Petition drive begins collecting signatures to repeal the law that Governor Whitmer claims gives her indefinite emergency authority.
The group will need to collect approximately 340,000 signatures, and then the initiative will be voted on by the legislature. If the legislature votes "yes," the governor cannot veto it. If the legislature votes "no," then the initiative will be placed on the 2022 general election ballot.

MICHIGAN RECAP
The second wave of deaths may be making its long-feared appearance. 65 people died last week, but 91 this week. Will the trend continue?
Governor Whitmer has re-closed bars and mandated the wearing of facemasks.

OFFICIAL DEATH TOLL (AS OF 7/11/2020)

I was away from the internet Saturday and so couldn't get that day's data as it was released to the public at that time. The figures below are from Saturday's figures in the Sunday edition of the state's day-by-day tally.
The state has begun tracking probable cases and deaths. Those are not included here. I don't know how they factor into the "recovered" total.

Detroit Metro (pop. 3,860,000 total; 1,796/sq. mi.; 694/sq km):*

40,038 confirmed / 4,596 dead
38,538 confirmed / 4,539 dead last week
(i.e. 57 new deaths, up 18 from the previous week)
Normal Detroit Metro Death Rate: 104 per day.**

Other Michigan (6,120,000; 65/sq. mi.; 25/sq km):

29,289 confirmed / 1,472 dead
26,995 confirmed / 1,433 dead last week
(i.e. 39 new deaths, up 13 from the previous week)
Normal not-Detroit Death Rate: 167 per day**

All Michigan (9,990,000; 103/sq. mi.; 40/sq km):

69,327 confirmed / 6,068 dead / 53,867 recovered = 9,392 active cases^
65,533 confirmed / 5,972 dead / 52,841 recovered = 6,720 active cases last week^
(96 dead (up 31) and 1,026 declared recovered (down 716 since last week)
Net change: + 2,672 active cases since last Saturday.^
Normal Michigan Death Rate: 271 per day.**

Death toll doubled since: April 23.

CLEVELAND — Cuyahoga County is approaching the highest level in the state when it comes to coronavirus cases and transmission. County leaders say we have to act now so we stop the spread in the future.

County Health Commissioner Terry Allan detailed the alarming rise, noting that although more coronavirus testing is taking place, the positivity rate increase from just 3.7% on June 23 to 8.8% this past Tuesday. In addition, 80% of county adult hospital beds and 59% of pediatric beds are now occupied, the highest levels since the pandemic began.

"We need to remember that our young people are not invincible," Allan said. "Their actions have consequences for our seniors, our grandparents, their grandparents and for the child down the street who may be battling Leukemia."

Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish said we must take action immediately.

"The surge is catastrophic and we are right in the thick of it here,” said Budish. "Our cases are skyrocketing, our emergency room visits are skyrocketing, hospitalization admissions are going up, things are getting worse. We've got real trouble."

Cuyahoga County is in red level three and going in the wrong direction towards level four or purple, according to the state’s map. If we enter into level four, Cuyahoga County will fall into the highest level in the state, meaning severe exposure and spread. The state says people should only leave their homes for supplies and services when reaching level four.

According to Cuyahoga County Medical Director, Dr. Heidi Gullett, intensive care unit occupancy is increasing and now stands at 82%, which is a 5% increase from one week ago.
"That crests over the threshold of 80% as one of the criterion for moving to the next level for us that's the purple level,” said Dr. Gullett.

The question was asked via a Zoom conference: What happens if Cuyahoga County hits the highest level of exposure? Do bars and restaurants shut down again?

Allan answered saying, "I think we have to look at what the trending looks like. I think the system is designed to do that relative to rating. Having said that, this is a new issue this morning and what it does is highlights the reason why we are talking to you today about the importance of masking."

Someone told me that such is "arrogant" because of the pandemic.

Corrupt people in positions of power must be loving that so many are turning to authoritarianism and giving up liberty for safety*, because of this seemingly endless "New Normal"...

*(remember that one Benjamin Franklin quote?)

Yep, and now the exact same people I knew who used to cite that quote in the context of the War on Terror and the surveillance state, are all now 100% in on the "new normal".

It has always worked fine for all of Human history. This so the first time that the healthy have been quarantined.

There won't be any ashes for society to rise from, because this isn't the plague. The plagues wiped out entire households, a lot of them. Covid kills the sick and the very old, and gives others a bad coof for a few weeks. Each death is a tragedy, and the cooffing will have an economic impact, but the effect on society as a whole will be negligible.

I signed up for a vaccine trial. I haven't heard back from them yet. I just want to do my part. I figure, best case scenario, I get immunity before everyone else. Worst case scenario, I get autism. Either way, I forward the cause of science.
Autism is not worst case. Permanent liver damage is.

For perspective, Cuyahoga county has had, for July, 180 Hospitalizations, 18 Deaths. It is, of course, the end of the fucking world. When the revolution comes, forget the lawyers, the journalists get it. In Minecraft, of course. I love how they don't give actual numbers, just percentages.

And just for fun, the population of Cuyahoga is 1,243,860, 2nd most populous county in the state.

0.02 percent is the only percentage that matters

Edit: Now it's 0.042 percent apparently

0.02 percent is the only percentage that matters

This is why this is so insane. The system DeWine is using is designed to make tiny changes in numbers look horrific, by lying through percentages. Forget Whitmer, she's just a raging bitch, DeWine's likely either power mad, a Never Trumper RINO trying to punish us for going hard for Trump, or both.

Yeah, black people don't wear masks and can't stand on a dot when they're in line at the store. This is common knowledge.

It's not like the vaccine can make you MORE of an autist so you're all set!

Whitmer was clever enough to say the mask must cover the nose and mouth. I did find this section of the executive order interesting though.

The Emergency Powers of the Governor Act provides a sufficient legal basis for issuing this executive order. In relevant part, it provides that, after declaring a state of emergency, “the governor may promulgate reasonable orders, rules, and regulations as he or she considers necessary to protect life and property or to bring the emergency situation within the affected area under control.” MCL 10.31(1).

Nevertheless, subject to the ongoing litigation and the possibility that current rulings may be overturned or otherwise altered on appeal, I also invoke the Emergency Management Act as a basis for executive action to combat the spread of COVID-19 and mitigate the effects of this emergency on the people of Michigan, with the intent to preserve the rights and protections provided by the EMA. The EMA vests the governor with broad powers and duties to “cop[e] with dangers to this state or the people of this state presented by a disaster or emergency,” which the governor may implement through “executive orders, proclamations, and directives having the force and effect of law.” MCL 30.403(1)–(2). This executive order falls within the scope of those powers and duties, and to the extent the governor may declare a state of emergency and a state of disaster under the Emergency Management Act when emergency and disaster conditions exist yet the legislature has not granted an extension request, they too provide a sufficient legal basis for this order.

She’s trying to find any thread of law to keep her emergency powers intact in the face of legal challenges to those powers.

Anyone who defends the lockdowns is automatically on the same exact level as the most retarded ResetERA posters and their ilk. @ConfederateIrishman and @DubbleBubble congrats, you're just as bad as and not an iota more on the right side of history than people who commission rape porn of Pixar animals and condone the desire to hang all white babies.

Seriously, your reaction to COVID is first and fucking foremost.
