The problem you're not seeing is that you make the critical mistake of thinking the average person's opinion matters. A lot of changes are instituted from the top-down, often from unelected bureaucrats on the advice of credentialed "experts". Those who institute it who are in fact elected do so from small urban strongholds or can simply deflect to something else, like "the other guy is worse!"

Remember, NAFTA for example was not popular when it was instituted. Most non-black Americans thought the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was too much. Exact same thing here, the plebs do not matter. Only the opinions of the elite matter when it comes to policy.

I marched in the Bay Ridge Blue lives matter protest. It was completely peaceful until the BLM protests showed up obviously, and then even when they did, it was like 1% who dared start any shit. Most of them just kinda protested quietly and didn't really interfere and it was still like 99% peaceful.

Of course that 1% made sure to start shit, video the fuck out of it and push it like holy hell as representative of the march and how "violent" the blue lives matter protests are. And the media loves that shit and is running with it and all I'm seeing all over facebook is how "violent" the bay ridge protest was and how violent the blue lives matter people were while a good portion of my friends, who marched also, are like, "What violence?"

Of course this isn't really news to anyone on this website.

Only semi-related, but Detroit groups "By Any Means Necessary" and "Detroit Will Breathe" protested the start of summer school this morning, for fear of Corona. About 100 demonstrators blocked the bus terminal and prevented any buses from leaving to pick up students.

"There's a reason they're only opening these schools in Detroit and Detroit has had the worst of COVID-19," said Kate Stenvig, one of the BAMN organizers. "We're not going to allow our kids to be guinea pigs in this experiment."
Along with forming a picket line in front of the two exit driveways at the terminal, protesters dug up plants and tree branches and placed them as a barricade in front of the open gates.
BAMN organizers said no buses left the terminal during the protest and at least two school bus drivers publicly quit during the demonstration, saying it was on Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and [superintendent] Vitti.

I'm old enough to remember in the nineties that white people abandoning the cities was because racism. Then with better policing and lower crime white people started moving back into the cities they complained about yuppie gentrification because racism.

I'm waiting for schools to open and the protests to move there. Can you imagine having to put your little elementary aged kids on the bus amid Covid fears only to have the bus surrounded by terrorists between home and school?
