Reading through the complaints on the BBB complaint page, there are some common themes to the complaints. They charge thousands of dollars for print-on-demand books, and they are remarkably unresponsive to author complaints as well as book purchaser complaints. Lots and lots of bitching because people were charged money they shouldn't have been, deceptive marketing, poor customer service, lack of transparency about royalties, refusal to pay royalties, etc. They always have an excuse. Oh, we just changed our payment system, gee whiz your email bounced back, gosh we've been trying so hard to fix that. Lots and lots of bullshit.

Dorrance publishing charges fees as high as they think they can get away with (up to 18 grand for one author I saw!) and preys upon the vanity of the author, their unfamiliarity with book publishing practices, and lack of legal knowledge to get them to sign contracts that basically obligate Dorrance Publishing to do very little, and gives you almost no recourse in the event of a disagreement or dissatisfaction. Of course, Melinda's a narcissistic legal ignoramus, so none of this bothered her. She got a book published! It's an 84-page print-on-demand book that, contrary to Melinda's claims, will not be on display for sale at Barnes & Noble or Walmart. It'd available for purchase on Amazon in both kindle format (9 dollars) or paperback (22 bucks). That's a hefty price for a glorified pamphlet about how great it is for kids to play outdoors.

Dorrance also only pays royalties out after a certain level of sales have been achieved. How many books sold will it take before Melinda sees a thin dime to recompense the thousands of dollars she spent getting published in the first place?

That money could and should have been spent on your children and improving both your and their living arrangements. Instead you spent it on ego-glorification. You should be ashamed of yourself, Melinda.

I'm going to go ahead and spend the money to get the kindle version, since i'm positive that the money will go directly to Dorrance and Melinda will see none of it. This should be fun.
