Some "witch" made a magic candle to help protesters. Black candles are typically used to cause harm, though, so if there's anything to magic she's cursing the BLM movement :story:

I actually support giving reparations. $10,000 each, $20m, 40 acres and a mule, whatever. I’ve only got 2 stipulations.

The first is that anyone who takes the money can NEVER call the USA racist again. The second is that if anyone who took the money says that America is still a racist nation, ALL payments are immediately pulled, checks cancelled, money withdrawn, everything.

I feel like this is a win-win. Either they all shut the fuck up and everyone is happy, or we conclusively prove that NOTHING will make them happy so why bother listening to anything they say?
I don't mean to be a jerk, but every suggestion like this completely misses the point. "Ok we'll give you X but JUST THIS ONCE OK?" will never work, and in fact only escalate the endless demands.

It's like pointing out that Reddit's "hatred directed at the majority is ok" policy implies men (48% of the world) or whites (<10% of the world) deserve similar protected status, or that affirmative action should apply to you in California where you're outnumbered, etc. None of these policies are based on moral principles, they're just situationally-convenient arguments they'll use as long as they work and discard the second they don't help attack you.

The study suggests a payment of $151 million each, and the cost to every person would be $18.96 million.

The calculation is somewhat complicated, but it essentially studies the unpaid hours slaves worked, calculates a price for massacres and discrimination, and adds in interest. It is titled "Wealth Implications of Slavery and Racial Discrimination for African American Descendants of the Enslaved." It was published last month in the the Review of Black Political Economy.
This is a slap in the to not just every middle and working class white person it's an insult to every hispanic and asian citizen, many of whom have been here for three generations and longer. Hispanics were already living in the former Spanish possessions of what is now the US as were Asians and had nothing to do with slavery in any way. The vast majority of whites in the 18th and 19th century did not buy, sell or own slaves and were exploited. In many cases they were worse off than slaves. As for reparations, if the blood of dead Union soldiers wasn't enough they can GTFO of my country.

If this gets serious consideration I guarantee there will be an insurrection. Antifa/BLM will be the first to feel it. Nations have had civil wars over less.

You jest, but people believe we have millions in crackabucks. And I don't just mean Freemen on the Land, I mean fairly serious people believe that whites are unfairly hoarding wealth that is not accessible to blacks. If you asked a well-read white person how to become wealthy, they'd probably tell you finish school, get married before you have kids, don't get into unnecessary debt, and save a little from every paycheck. If you asked a leftist how white persons become wealthy, they'd tell you it's intergenerational wealth because of redlining sixty years ago and grand inheritances being passed down from generation to generation--like all of us get a small surburban ranch-style home when our parents die, and this is the nucleus of a great Scrooge McDuck fortune.

I hate this argument. I don't think my parents got a cent when my grandparents died, and I know I didn't. If anything, the time they spent caring for them in their last years cost them. They could have been working an extra job, or enjoying boomer pursuits, but instead they displayed heroic compassion to their parents in their last years. I can only hope I have the strength to do the same when the time comes. That's intergenerational wealth--caring for those who came before you and after you. That's what BLM and their screeching allies are lacking, and what they will never get from reparations.

It's hard to build intergenerational wealth when your Dad cuts out on your seconds after your birth.

And if any jogger asks me for reparations, I'll tell him that 100,000 white men died during the Civil War to free his ass. I'll also tell them that tanking the economy to make a one time payment is going to result in a bunch of angry, starving and well-armed white people and hispanics, all angry that money was hoovered from their pockets to fund a bunch of shiftless whiners who will run through their money in a matter of weeks and then angrily demand more.

Also, there's going to be a bunch of really angry Somalians bitching that all of the other black people got gibs so where's their piece of the pie? Then other "oppressed" groups will chime in, each demanding their pound of flesh until the American economy makes the same noise you get when you make the last squeeze on an empty bottle of ketchup.

Also also, this nation already gives a shit ton of money to black people in the form of schooling, prisons and welfare. A ton of that money ends up in the hands of corrupt governmental officials and political machines that are supposed to help the inner cities, but instead go to pay for the second houses and shitty weaves of fat Shaniqua mayors and administrators. Remember that kerfuffle in the city of Baltimore when the corrupt city government was given a bunch of money to improve the infrastructure and it just vanished without a trace? Then a bunch of white Republicans came in to clean up the place and got it to look better than it had in years. And the local government was angry at the white people for making it look bad. Trump had an idea awhile back - that instead of giving out EBT cards, we hand everyone on welfare a box full of healthy food. I like that idea. How about instead of reparations, we give every black person a gift certificate to a local trade school or college, a free dorm room, and then we tell them they have 2-4 years to learn a profitable skill. After that time, they are completely on their own and will get no government money. Sink or swim, bitches. I wish someone had given me that kind of deal when I graduated from high school.

Reparations make no sense because even if blacks were universally as bad off as the liberals claim, they still have a better quality of life and higher wages than if they lived in Africa.
Should the descendants of union soldiers who died freeing them get reparations? I have no doubt some white folks will get reparations because they were descendants of slaves..

This is idiotic.

The argument for reparations is a little crazy. Questions to ask yourself.

If black people were never compensated for their labor, how were many of them able to buy their way out of slavery? Where did that money come from, how was it earned? How does that factor into discussions about reparations?

If intergenerational wealth results in millions of dollars in net assets, where are the white people possessing it? That's < 1% of the population.

If slavery was the cause of oppression, what other forms of societal organization from hundreds of years ago caused oppression and are worthy of compensation? Indentured servitude, for example - which you should not assume was much better than being a slave. 80% of America's economy was agriculture until around 1910, most of those people were working on farms without compensation for the time of their servitude.

If slavery was a worldwide norm that existed for thousands of years, and the United States ended it in the West - where's the recognition for the societal benefits? If all calculations are done per capita with the assumption that every descendant suffers from oppression, where do we realize the benefit of hundreds of years of not being enslaved?

If the cost to white people is several times their expected lifetime earnings, what is the difference between that cost and slavery? If it comes at the expense of social and cultural norms, what is the difference between that and genocide?

If the cost to achieve reparations exceeds World GDP, what is the purpose of an economy? If the cost to pay reparations diminishes global economic value, what is the risk / reward scenario for doing so?

Can wealth gaps between white and african american households be explained in any way besides systemic racism and oppression? In the case of redlining, isn't choice of where to live a fundamental right?

Basically correct. The entire "Aryan" thing was a LARP, too. Even dullest anthropologist knew the Aryans were the Southern Indo-European horde, the one that went down into Iran. It's right there in the country's name. Iran = Aryan. They were somewhat connected to the Greeks, who called their elite aristoi, but any relationship to the Teutons was long-sundered.
Sounds a lot like what some whites think about jews. :story:
Sort of. The anti-white argument is that historical practices from Jim Crow still have an effect today. This is probably untrue because we know familial wealth usually doesn't last that long, and motivated families (e. g. immigrants) can accrue wealth very quickly. The anti-Semitic argument is that Jews today use in-group preference to give each other a leg-up in hiring, etc. I don't know if this is true or not, the wealth of upper class Jews seems to be conditioned on a lot more than just "give Bernie's kid a job in the mail room." And the middle- to lower-class ones had a really hard time in the 20th century.
