If the Peter Quill one was an re-imagining of him being in a western setting and a cowboy, that would be the only one that looks remotely good if the artist erased some details.

They did my girl Yoko wrong. I'll admit I also dislike her bikini because it broke my immersion a bit, but her character design itself is great. I also like how in the "Pieces of Sweet Stars" video the studio shows her in a bunch of different costumes and - what a surprise! She's still visibly and obviously the same character.

1. You don't get in good shape by just working out like a tard. That's why the fitness community is full of near-hypochondriac sentiment about what you should or shouldn't do, you can find health anxiety from the tism pits of /fit/ to the comment section of Athlean-X videos. This wouldn't even bother me so much if they didn't whine about people cherrypicking where they suspend their disbelief while redesigning every character as a lanky mess or a slightly out of shape person, all of which being on the brink of ugliness because people being attractive is bad.

2. "also I like drawing women who look like me, which means body hair and some muscles babey!!" So, uh, narcissistic tendencies are a check. How much of a fuck do you have to be to do that? Drawing should be fun, yes, you should draw what you want, yes, but if you feel some kind of compulsion to insert yourself into other people's characters when you redesign them, you have some real self-esteem issues.

3. "and be comfortable by god, why do pop media character clothing look so uncomfortable" First of all, grammar. Second of all, bitch, it's called character design. You genrally don't design clothing to be practical or comfy when you're primarily trying to make a character recognizable. Also, how the fuck is this comfortable?

Honestly this isn’t the worst I’ve seen, and I’m not sure I’d call it SJW because other than the realistic style fail it does look like the characters and doesn’t have any obnoxious "MUH REPRESEN-TAY-SHUUUUUUN" markers (unless you count how Korra seems to be copping a feel on Asami there), but that’s probably because I’m 90% certain a lot of this is traced - or at least the faces are.

But to answer the question, I think SJWs being bad at faces tends to be a combination of them not being good at giving facial features an underlying structure to give them consistency and depth, while also putting too much emphasis on all the wrong features. Korra looks fucking stoned with the way her eyes are rolling back into her head, and Asami’s smile is only made uncanny by the by the excessive lines around her eyes and mouth.

Also it always bugs me when artists put all this effort into shading and detailing the body, but then skimp out on the clothes. Do they really think no one notices the difference in quality?

To add on to this, it might also be that they all tend to draw from the same general well when it comes to style. So alongside not studying anything past basic anatomy, you get a whole lot of artistic inbreeding and cannibalism.

This one is hilarious. "coat if she gets cold" yes, because superheroes are known for always bringing along a jacket in case it gets a bit chilly lmao. This just reminds me of the cliche scenario of a teenage girl going out with her friends and her overprotective parents force a jacket on her to cover her up. Seriously, why TF is a hero going to need a cardigan??

why is black canary in mad max:road warrior? i mean if you ignore the ugly as hell face, this is a pretty badass design, but it looks nothing at all like the original character. this would be a cool design for something completely different in a different genre.

i think the fangs are pretty cool but the weird drapey garments make no sense at all. if she's apparently going to use web slinging powers like spiderman, why these long scarves? wouldnt they just get in the way? for an artist that brags about making practical clothing this just doesnt make sense. it looks like she crash landed in a thrift shop.

this is easily the worst one. i dont like quiet's design either, but this...this is just worse somehow. here she looks like a homeless floridian about to sneak into walmart to try and get away with taking a nap on one of their beds.

These people can only alter and deconstruct things. They can never truly create anything original, it either has to be a bastardized progressive version of a preestablished property, of a progressivised knockoff version of one.
None of these designs scream "hero" or "protagonist" like the original ones do. They only scream "CARTOON CHARACTERS WITH BIG BOOBS AND SLIM FIGURES MAKE ME FEEL INSECURE"
