Did they think the rules wouldn't change when Antifa was declared a terrorist organization? Did they think that the police, in marked cars and announcing themselves way ahead of time, were going to roll up, read them their rights and hand them a ticket?
No. The rules are different now. Terrorists don't get treated like jaywalkers, they get shoved into vans without a word. I forget who said it but it made me realize how fucked we are as a culture. A youtuber said the most counter culture thing you could do right now is get married young, start a family, and be faithful.
It's times like this where despite me thinking it's absolutely terrible and borderline subhuman that US culture openly acknowledges, embraces, and at times celebrates prison rape as a punishment for criminals that a part of me feels like it has its place.

My favorite part of the video is the Antifa Karen demanding he "use his words" like a toddler or something. I've heard suggestion that this was an op -- either those guys are LARPers pretending, or that's a fed plant being picked up at the end of his shift. It was too clean, effectively.
But no, the left has long since had this issue where they presume systemic entitlement. They presume the system will go on EXACTLY THE SAME except for whatever change THEY make, and only THAT change will occur. We've seen this in the culture war, where they're flabbergasted when the reactionaries do counter movements or the companies do something woke with one hand and something they don't like with the other. Hell, one could probably make a case that the 2016 election was this -- the radical left tried to push everything to the left, and instead of just staying the exact same except more left, you saw Trump get elected instead.
Antifa thinks they'll just terrorize the system into giving them their Marxist Utopia and the system will act the exact same, reacting in NO WAY to them, other than to change in ways they push for. They expected Trump to do NOTHING other than what they wanted him to do, so they could enact precrafted scripts and plants to react to his action.

It's a common misconception that when you're placed under arrest, you have to be read your rights otherwise it totally doesn't count because the Miranda Rights are a magic spell or some dogshit, I don't know. That's genuinely not what they are and it's not some kind of dumb ritual, I have no idea where that comes from other than people watching too many movies.
The Miranda Rights only apply in situations where the police would be required to detain you for questioning. If the cops see you smashing bricks through windows, lighting cars on fire, and running up and down the streets in riot gear, they don't have any questions for you. You will not be read your rights. These people watch too many movies.

This is why when this shit started, I was freaked about a bunch of shit, but quickly realized that this only happening because the people in charge allowed this to happen. Switch out the Seattle/Portland city gov with the Feds, and you realize that this shit has stayed pretty much in badly run cities that turn on you as soon as it becomes inconvienent for them. Like how Seattle was fine with Chaz, until you showed up on the mayors lawn. Or when Portland was playing catch and release, but the moment you stepped on Federal toes, you better be ready to get a five toe-bone busting from a Steel-toe mil grade boot.

Then when they start threatening something actually important or federal and the Oprichniks ride in and start giving social welfare via a sword or Mosin-Nagant.
