Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

What's going to be interesting is the fight for Speaker of the House.

If the Dem's maintain their majority in the House and Nancy Pelosi is still Speaker, it's going to be a knife fight while she hangs onto the seat with everything she has.

See, when Joe dies or is 25th'd out, not if, but when (And I'd be amazed if he didn't shit himself taking the Oath of Office or otherwise start barking like a dog or swear into Albania or start demanding to fight the guy holding the Bible or ask where Corn Pop is) he is no longer the President, we end up with a thing going down.

The VP becomes President.
The Speaker of the House become the VP.

THAT is going to be a nasty fight. This means that whoever is the Speaker of the House will be an unelected VP, and despite the actions and attitudes of most VP's, there is still a lot of power there.

The FUNNIER thing will be if it's a Republican Speaker of the House, because split party occupancy of the White House hasn't been a thing in a long time.

Could you imagine seeing Copmala having to stare at a House Republican as her VP for her 4 years of glorious Black Woman Power White House Tour?

Remember, it isn't just the VP to POTUS path we're looking at, but the entire disruption of the Chain of Command.

Which means that the Democrats AND the Republicans know that control of the House and the Speaker of the House position is vital. It's especially vital no matter which one wins, because Trump's not getting younger and Biden may already be some kind of weird lich.

(CNN)Former Vice President Joe Biden leads President Donald Trump by a significant 12-point margin nationally, according to a CNN Poll of Polls released Monday.
Biden garners 52% support among registered voters, with 40% supporting Trump.
The poll of polls includes the five most recent national telephone polls measuring the views of registered voters. The polls were all taken as coronavirus cases in the United States continue to rise, and the President maintains that the situation is under control while calling for a complete reopening of the economy and schools.
The ongoing outbreak is giving Biden a big advantage in the general election, with recent polling showing voter preference for his approach to the issue.

Almost 3 in 10 (29%) of voters in a Fox News poll released Sunday said coronavirus is the most important issue facing the country, well ahead of any other issue named by poll respondents. Fifteen percent of respondents said the economy is the most important issue and 10% said it was issues surrouding race relations, race issues and the police.
A majority in the polls released find Americans overall trust Biden over Trump to handle the coronavirus outbreak. Fifty-four percent say they trust Biden while 34% trust Trump, a 20-point edge, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Approval of Trump's handling of coronavirus has also gone down -- 37% of voters approved and 59% disapproved, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll last week. In June, 43% voters approved of his handling of the pandemic while 55% disapproved.
The CNN Poll of Polls is an average of the five most recent non-partisan, live operator, national telephone surveys on the general election matchup between Biden and Trump among registered voters. The poll of polls includes results from the Fox News poll conducted July 12-15, the Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted July 12-15, the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll conducted July 9-12, the Quinnipiac University poll (undefined) conducted July 9-13 and the Monmouth University poll conducted June 26-30. The poll of polls does not have a margin of sampling error.

The fact that Trump supporters think he can still win is hilarious.

Well, it looks like the left is getting cocky again. That didn't work out so well last time. The electoral college favors Republicans, so Trump could lose the popular vote nationally by ~2%, like last time, and still be re-elected. And, polling gaps always tighten around election time. Dementia Joe ain't gonna win by 12 points. If he does win, it will be close. He's senile, uninspiring, and doesn't have any good VP options.

Looking at things the way they are, right now, what would you guys asay are Trump's odds at fucking this demented old coot into the ground? I'm looking to bet money on Trump's victory, but timing counts for a lot when it comes to odds making it worthwhile. I won $1,000 on Trump winning in 2016 (I could have won $25,000, but I lost my nerve at the last minute and dropped my bet...one of my greatest regrets), but as the incumbent, he has a natural advantage. That, and everything else wrong with Biden. Do you guys think his odds will only improve whenever Biden is finally cornered into picking a VP, or will that not make any difference at all?

I have no fucking clue. If you believe “the polls” are generally right, if overstated, you have to think both Trump and the GOP in general are fucked six ways from Sunday.

On the other hand, Joe Biden is a vegetable with no good VP options to choose from, and his base is burning down courthouses, demanding the abolition of police, likewise the abolition of “whiteness”, and generally acting very insecure about their positions when challenged to the point of targeting random utility workers in San Diego and pregnant white women in Arizona. All of this is being actively cheered from the sidelines by elected Democrats and their media allies, who promise explicitly to “transform” America if given the reins of power.

I would guess a minor Trump victory at this point if you put a gun to my head, on par with or even slightly narrower than 2016. I base this prediction on nothing but gut instinct and a diminished but still intact faith in the goodness of the American people.

:optimistic:

The fascinating thing is that no one has yet pandered to Latinos yet this cycle, and the Dems might be actively pushing them away by openly supporting BLM and rioting over their interests, despite the fact that they make up a quarter of this country and are its fastest growing population group. I'm not going to predict a great turn to trump from them, but dont be surprised if he gets a greater percentage of their vote than he did in 2016.

The bilingual primary debates were not sufficient pandering?

I think he's alluding more to the visible lack of DACA thumping, "babies in cages", "American dreamers" and asylum for illegals. Which might be strange on its lonesome, but given how the news cycle has been innudated with happenings like COVID scares and ORANGE MAN BAD and Burn Loot Murder, not so surprising.

well those were mostly with joke candidates...
