Zoe Quinn's Chuck Tingle Kickstarter gives what I think is a guide to the upper limit a scheme like this can hope to get - just over 80 grand seems the maximum. And ValiDate has undoubtedly gotten a boost with race being so prominent an issue the last couple of months.

So supporting a lazy, ugly, crappy game to the tune of $50,000 because all the characters have dark skin and pronouns fits pretty well with the kind of counter-productive, surface level attempts to combat racism we've seen recently. Invest in small businesses that need help recovering? No, let's give a bunch of deluded hipsters in an art collective money to make a very, very bad game! That will show those white, cis people!

Still, with such a large team, that's not going to be very much money when distributed among all the team members. Unless they're being grifted too, of course. Frankly, they deserve it.

It's amazing how people can take what little we see of the original character's ethnicities and make them look like something believable. She looks like an actual person you could see in real life now.

For a game about "validating" struggles, they really miss the mark in making this feel like a NORMAL world. Do you get weirdos and other odd people? Yes, you do, but those are not the norm. If this is a dating sim about your average 20-year something they certainly do a good job at NOT reflecting that part of reality. And yes, it doesn't have to be 100% realistic, but if that was the theme you were going for to begin with the characters should at the very least look middle-of-the-road. I swear all the characters look like they got out of bootleg fashion show, not that normal guy who you can find down the street.

The first couple of pages are a little harder to edit since some things are image files rather than text files, so I have to pull out GIMP instead of just changing some words around. This is also why I half-assed it and left some of the old stuff intact, like the backgrounds. So now it just kinda looks like I edited the original picture in microsoft paint and wasted my time. Which I guess is one step removed from what I did.

Something else weird I found in the game files:
Malik's flattened_character sheet has falco T-posing for some reason:

Its under gui-flattened_character_select if for some reason you don't believe me and want to decompress it yourself.

Not only does she look like an actual hapa now, she also looks like an actual hairstylist. Good work.

I think the design is very cute and I like how you were able to also stay true to her ethnicity.

So I read through this thread and it looks like the moral of the game is that being LGBT or non-binary or whatever makes you bitter, petty and miserable mostly by causing friction in every single social interaction you have. The whole cast chooses to be hostile and cause problems based on their identity and would probably be happier if they just dialed it down and conformed. Not sure if that’s what the devs were going for.

But that’s what I’m getting.
