It's not a high bar to clear, but you're pole-vaulting it all the same.

Pole vault, long jump, marathon and the list goes on. There is a chasm between what Jimmy and a handful of others, here and there, have done compared to MSM. It is shocking, but it is news that can't be politicised(yet) and a global panic would ensue , if the media were let loose on it. Thinking back to the toilet roll panic, at the beginning of the virus, there would probably be millions of people driving to high ground, by now, even though they might live 100's of 1000's of miles from the floods. It is amazing how many people are completely unaware of what is going on outside of the front page bubble of, agenda driven, headlines and sidebars of sensationalism and celebrity bullcrap. They are literally dumb.
Looking at the 3GD numbers i think it all makes sense. The outflow is reducing because the outlets are filling up with debris, and/or the internal surfaces, of the outlet channels, are compromised so the flow of water is not smooth and causing a reduction in flow rate. I am thinking about the difference in flow through and out of a corrugated pipe compared to a smooth bore pipe. This irregular surface leads to cavitation and would result in the pulsing seen at the outlet mouths. As others have said; cavitation of clean water can be destructive enough, to immediate surfaces, and if lumps of upstream dams, trees, cars etc are bowling around, too, then damage is magnified accordingly. Sadly; I expect the trend in the decrease of outflow to continue and it only has to be slight, to make a huge difference in levels, due to the enormous volume they should discharge.
Somehow they need to increase outflow, which will result in more flooding, but in a controlled way. It would be great if, somehow, the top of the dam could be lowered to allow for an earlier overspill , but it would reduce the extra pressure against the dam from an increase in rising level. From todays level to dam top multiplied by the width of the dam, multiplied by the area behind the dam is a fuck load of extra pressure for the materials to deal with.
It is a difficult position to be in. If they do nothing and the dam blows the CCP will loose face in China and globally. If they try and manage the situation they might cause the dam to fail and loose face. It is literally a case of damned if they do, damned if they don't.
edit to add: following recent figures showing a huge increase in outflow there was either a blockage or the otflow wasn't maxed out. I jumped the gun there in expecting a steady decrease. I still think the outflow systems to be getting seriously damaged. One possibility is for 2 outlets to become so battered they break into each other to form 1 larger outlet. An increase in outflow but at the cost of local structural integrity.
