It's not a high bar to clear, but you're pole-vaulting it all the same.
:semperfidelis:

Pole vault, long jump, marathon and the list goes on. There is a chasm between what Jimmy and a handful of others, here and there, have done compared to MSM. It is shocking, but it is news that can't be politicised(yet) and a global panic would ensue , if the media were let loose on it. Thinking back to the toilet roll panic, at the beginning of the virus, there would probably be millions of people driving to high ground, by now, even though they might live 100's of 1000's of miles from the floods. It is amazing how many people are completely unaware of what is going on outside of the front page bubble of, agenda driven, headlines and sidebars of sensationalism and celebrity bullcrap. They are literally dumb.

Looking at the 3GD numbers i think it all makes sense. The outflow is reducing because the outlets are filling up with debris, and/or the internal surfaces, of the outlet channels, are compromised so the flow of water is not smooth and causing a reduction in flow rate. I am thinking about the difference in flow through and out of a corrugated pipe compared to a smooth bore pipe. This irregular surface leads to cavitation and would result in the pulsing seen at the outlet mouths. As others have said; cavitation of clean water can be destructive enough, to immediate surfaces, and if lumps of upstream dams, trees, cars etc are bowling around, too, then damage is magnified accordingly. Sadly; I expect the trend in the decrease of outflow to continue and it only has to be slight, to make a huge difference in levels, due to the enormous volume they should discharge.

Somehow they need to increase outflow, which will result in more flooding, but in a controlled way. It would be great if, somehow, the top of the dam could be lowered to allow for an earlier overspill , but it would reduce the extra pressure against the dam from an increase in rising level. From todays level to dam top multiplied by the width of the dam, multiplied by the area behind the dam is a fuck load of extra pressure for the materials to deal with.

It is a difficult position to be in. If they do nothing and the dam blows the CCP will loose face in China and globally. If they try and manage the situation they might cause the dam to fail and loose face. It is literally a case of damned if they do, damned if they don't.

edit to add: following recent figures showing a huge increase in outflow there was either a blockage or the otflow wasn't maxed out. I jumped the gun there in expecting a steady decrease. I still think the outflow systems to be getting seriously damaged. One possibility is for 2 outlets to become so battered they break into each other to form 1 larger outlet. An increase in outflow but at the cost of local structural integrity.

What fruits are you guys using for alcohol in Hungary? Hungarian wine is a thing?

Wine is yuge with the oldest wine region ever declared, but currently it is apple and cherry and plum, strawberries and all the other berries, the constant rain is causing rot and fungus to spread like wildfire despite chemical countermeasures. We use any and all fruits for alcohol.
If it is a fruit that grows locally you can booze it.

If I had money I would even try making booze out of import fruits. Banana, coconut, pineapple brqndy sounds like fun.

This had beem the coldest and wettest summer since living memory. I imagine we are not alone so I predict european fruit prices to rise for this year quite a bit.

Grapes and wheat seem to be doing okay according to some googling so we'll have bread and wine.

Two reasons: 1. Downstream is already quite critical and they’re probably releasing the minimum they can to avoid catastrophe
2. They can’t, physically. Spillways are damaged/blocked or the amount of water and shite going through is doing damage.
And check this out. This morning at least as of 10AM outflow from the Three Gorges Dam has hit 38,600 m³/s, so whatever was going on yesterday either worked its way through or I guess they got the order to open it up more. Not that it will help much, the reservoir is still at 59,000 m³/s inflow and gaining ~9cm of water per hour, which has been consistent since 6PM yesterday. So at this rate every 11 hours there's an additional ~1m of water in the reservoir.

Water Flow increase of 10cm per hour on July 27-3.png

*updated to include the 11AM numbers
*and just for laughs, here are the 12 noon numbers as well

We're at 161 meters of water... that's ~2m of water every day. So if this continues at this rate we'll hit the 175m reservoir limit in 6-7 days. There should be a short lull in inflow midweek after yesterday's semi-dry weather. Not going to be enough though. Hopefully something changes in that span of time.

Another fun fact: now that I can spell "reservoir" without looking it up, I've moved onto brushing up on my Metric skills.

Tokaj is the gold standard of the Hungarian wine regions. It is Hungary's most famous wine region, the oldest classified wine region in the world, a Unesco World Heritage Site, and home to the world's first noble rot wine–the sweet golden Tokaji Aszú (“toe-kye as-zoo

Jesus christ

Dat forecast

Lol this has to be haarp

Guess the first time HAARP was used was back in 1975 causing an estimated years worth of rain to fall , in 24hrs, in china leading to the Banqiao dam disaster. Weather and envirnmental shit happens. Some we cause and some is just the natural cycle of shit. One thing is for sure HAARP has absolutely fuck all to do with what is going on in china.

Donald Trump used HAARP to travel back in time and convince the CCP to build their entire infrastructure dependant on a single civil engineering project not getting a thousand year flood in a world trending towards higher temperatures and therefore larger rain events. Those memes about Trump having 100 million projected kills were fact after all. :semperfidelis:

Lol if only they didn't kill and/or eat all the animals, they could've used them as a warning system for the big flood if (when?) it comes.

gg no re China
You show a distinct lack of perspective. Without so many animals, you can fit more people on Pooh's Ark. For that, you only need a thousand peasants to act as slave labor, once the water recedes and a few pig's ears and duck feet to chew on while you wait.

When all is said and done, we can celebrate with a fine bottle of yesteryears wine.

I do t think our control of weather is anywhere near so sophisticated as being able to create storms like that on such a specific area. It’s also just something nature throws at us all by herself. In Europe in 1362 there was a storm so severe it threw people through the air, killed livestock and sent a storm surge over coasts that killed tens, possibly hundreds, of thousands.
The power of the weather, water, rivers and storms dwarfs what we can do. I think we forget that sometimes living in our safe little buildings.

So yes this thing is going over the whole Eurasia.

I kind of think if this was cloud seeding, HAARP raindance magic it would be more localised.

Mind global warming is a kill, this summer had us use HEATING that usually shuts off in the spring.
In my biased short-term life experience, in my area it seems like the weather has merely gotten more extreme in both directions rather trending one way or the other: So harsh winters flipping to scorching summers; Giant week-long blizzards in the winter and flooding in the Summer. Honestly I find the extreme weather rather comfy, but I can see how it will be an issue long term.

How do people get made whole after this event ends? Are there insurance companies in China? Does the government cover that? How do farms and businesses and homes get rebuilt and who pays for it?

I am asking, I do not know and it has been on my mind.

You practically have to go back to formula at this point. Reset everything to zero. If there's remnants of the CCP left, you have to kill them all, mercilessly. You can't let them maintain even a slim fingerhold on the situation.

Pooh Bear and the party elite fly out of the country on a jetliner full of money.
Everyone else? Lol, they’re fucked.

The government will increase rations from 2 bags of rice to 1 bag of rice.

That's not how it works. Head pressure is entirely based on depth. How much water is behind the dam at any given depth is irrelevant.

Multiply by 29.8 to get cubic feet per second. I keep forgetting these numbers are metric and get floored with how big the numbers are every time I start converting stuff.

I have a hard time believing their weather control is so fucked up that they accidentally cause floods. when america developed their cloud seeding projects back in the 40s, they ran into some problems and almost destroyed a few towns, it wasn't big news back then because their publicist Kurt Vonnegut successfully spun the story. meanwhile his brother Bernard who was in charge of the project managed to work out the kinks and successfully brought cloud seeding into the world, way back in the Truman administration. and you can hear this wonderful story in the non-fiction book on audible.com. use promo code MATI and you can listen to this book for free. That's right free. you'd have to be a lolcow to not take advantage of this deal. now back to your forum reading.
