Yandere Sim Clones & Fangames - Yandere Wars: The Clone Wars. No, the games aren't coming out.

Removing their right to own their work is also removing their right to put in portfolio which is fucked up. I know people like SeekNdestroy and Sam Wong, are like people try to get in industry which contributing will 100% help them for their portfolio. Their are not your slaves, Dr Apeis.

Not necessarily, most clients typically have no problem with work being used in portfolios/examples if asked. If it's a project such as a book/game/whatever, typically they will ask you to withhold it until the project itself is published. Of course there are people who do not want it publicized in any manner, so you have to respect that, as they are now the owners. With the prevalence of social media, there's usually less of a stink about it because it's beneficial to both parties, and sometimes, clients themselves want to show off the fancy stuff they got. The only reason some issues may arise is concept artbooks being published, since that's a beast of it's own and usually requires an actual lawyer to draft contracts due to the monetization aspect ( adequate compensation for rights, split revenue from sales etc. etc. ) so specifics need to be ironed out with the client.

Considering witcherries/seekndestroy seems to frequently post her artwork for Love Letter on her twitter, I assume Dr.Apeis has no problem with her using it for her portfolio, hell I doubt he even considered that fact if I'm being completely honest. Since it's quite clear he either lurks, or has someone who lurks give him info considering they're now adding contracts, my suggestion is he read up on copyright and how it works if this is something he's genuinely interested in. He's lucky that most of these volunteers are green and he's not monetizing the development.

I hope you understand it's incredibly unlikely your design will get approved by the copyright office, and if the LL team wanted to they could completely ignore you with no penalty.
But that being said, they changed the design anyway and the project is crashing and burning, so it won't even matter down the line when it gets approved or rejected.

In all honesty he doesn't *need* a lawyer for this stuff. In the majority of cases, as long as there is a clear agreement inbetween the two parties, even something as simple as having them say "I give you the rights to use this", then there's not much they can do if they changed their mind later. For an even stronger case, he could just write up a form that says "I X hereby renounce all rights of character Y to Z for use in commercial and non commercial products now and forever" with a little dotted line at the bottom. And it would work just fine.
It's really not as complicated as most people think.
A judge would even accept a non-written verbal agreement as long as there's a witness to it.
Yes, I do understand that if it won't be approved, at least I know that I tried. The only thing I asked of them was to not use Bow Chans design in any way, shape or form.

With that being said, Good morning/afternoon/evening/night to those who are still here! I hope your day has been well!

Let's see about that. What I meant portfolio, is more public portfolio not the private one. Since Apeis would be less dicky than Alex, I think he allowed to put it after the release of his project. (Since most riot and blizzard artist, put their games artwork in public site like artstation,da ,twitter, etc after their content being released).
I think Concept artbook will be fine, just make it free and downloadable to everyone . And Dr Apeis, you will be yeeted by the art community if you make profit from the printed version.

God damnit, now even my personal friends outside of KF are asking whats going on with Love Letter, I really don't want to overburden myself with all the casefiles i have open and the game reviews i gotta do, but this is the job i signed up for.

If you guys honestly want, i can do a second investigation.

I think even if not approved, it was very good how you tried because doing so you showed how serious you are to protect Bow Chan's design.
If let's say Apeis ignored this and continued using design against your will, even if the copyright office ended up not approving, his reputation would be completely destroyed and tons of volunteers would quit and distance from the project.
A side question though, would you ever in theory be open to allowing someone to use Bow Chan in some game if they were professional enough? Do you have any plans for the character?

I think what Apeis wants to achieve with NDA is to prevent people from revoking him the rights to use stuff that they made for LL..
I doubt that he will try to force volunteers to give up full ownership of the characters they make but rather just that volunteers will agree that what they made can be used even if they leave project later.
If he tries to make others give up full ownership, I doubt a lot of people would volunteer for him.

I do have plans for the character, yes. And if there was someone who was professional enough, I would allow someone to use her.
Some people have asked if they can continue drawing fan art of her, which of course they can! I love the fan art that I have received of her. And it has inspired others to be able to get creative with their own designs! I do find it a bit chuckle worthy that since I have my creation back, people are suddenly saying that she will be "forgotten" or that they "never liked the design anyway". Nothing personal against them, I just found it to be a bit funny.

Hi! I have a question for you
How do you feel about Bow-chan fanart now? Are they technically fanart of your OC now?
I still love and cherish all the fan art that has been made of her!

Nice to hear that you are taking this rather well. Can't say I expected you to come here and act chill but we will see, good on you tho.

Late welcome and remember that around here we don't like the double posting so try to answer in just one post or edit answers later.

What a bizarre year it has been.

Not surprised. Before the YanSim subreddit became private, I saw a bunch of users there with cringy typing patterns like this. Either way, this dude is clearly fishing for people's sympathy and I'm not buying it.
