Removing their right to own their work is also removing their right to put in portfolio which is fucked up. I know people like SeekNdestroy and Sam Wong, are like people try to get in industry which contributing will 100% help them for their portfolio. Their are not your slaves, Dr Apeis.
Not necessarily, most clients typically have no problem with work being used in portfolios/examples if asked. If it's a project such as a book/game/whatever, typically they will ask you to withhold it until the project itself is published. Of course there are people who do not want it publicized in any manner, so you have to respect that, as they are now the owners. With the prevalence of social media, there's usually less of a stink about it because it's beneficial to both parties, and sometimes, clients themselves want to show off the fancy stuff they got. The only reason some issues may arise is concept artbooks being published, since that's a beast of it's own and usually requires an actual lawyer to draft contracts due to the monetization aspect ( adequate compensation for rights, split revenue from sales etc. etc. ) so specifics need to be ironed out with the client.
Considering witcherries/seekndestroy seems to frequently post her artwork for Love Letter on her twitter, I assume Dr.Apeis has no problem with her using it for her portfolio, hell I doubt he even considered that fact if I'm being completely honest. Since it's quite clear he either lurks, or has someone who lurks give him info considering they're now adding contracts, my suggestion is he read up on copyright and how it works if this is something he's genuinely interested in. He's lucky that most of these volunteers are green and he's not monetizing the development.
