Recent VP choices have usually been made later in August in recent history. McCain tapped Palin on 29 August, although there was the whole Lieberman shenanigans before that. Considering the extremely weak candidates, it's probably wise for Biden to wait as long as possible so there's less time for commoners to learn about the black woman he taps.

Honestly, breaking his promise to add a pee oh cee woman to the office would be the best thing to do. Sure, the SJWs will bitch and moan at him not picking one, but Harris is so unlikable that she may cause a lower than expected turn out among blacks and if they pick Karen Bass, they won't be getting Florida and Biden needs that state in play.

Imagine all of the song and dance regarding representation this election, only to pick A FUCKING WHITE MALE as Vice President. It's almost as skin deep diversity is repulsive towards voters.
Picking Kamala Harris to appeal to blacks would be extremely dumb.
Why would Florida dislike Bass? I know nothing about her.

Bass supports the Castro regime. Florida, and other parts of the south, have a huge number of Cuban immigrants. They left Cuba to get away from Castro, by any means necessary. Like hell they're gonna vote for someone who's pro castro into the white house.

There's still a lot of folks who whitnessed what Castro did first hand. Later generations who never lived in Cuba might support Bass and Castro. But that's pretty small.

That’s my pet theory as to why they’re still waiting. Not that there’s good options in general but it’s better if Biden picks someone who excites the base but may be white and *gasp* male vs. trying to shove the square KKKamala through the round hole of the grievance-progressive wing of the party. I think BLM would rather have a white man that they can browbeat too. They went all in for Biden but refused to deal with Harris.

being cool with scientology might not help win any friends outside of Clearwater, either

The more I hear about Bass the more I hope she’s the pick.

It would be absolutely fucking hilarious and I’m convinced the DNC really does think the average voter is too stupid to care about how awful she is.

Supposedly bass is out of the running

It's an odd conundrum. Usually the VP is announced by now, but they're such a bland personality you aren't expected to care too much. I was really disappointed about the lack of Tim Kaine memes in 2016, but the reason for the absence is his innate blandness. Not overshadowing the main candidate is baked into the electoral math. Even the Mike Pence electroshock scandal only came about after the fact, and really in reaction to the anti-Trump forces who tried to forment outrage years after he disavowed such practices.
But for Biden to delay so much is really bad. I mean it. He's exceptional here, he can't afford to put off announcing his Veep. This VP cannot be bland, they have to be a lot more than just a hype-man for the main attraction, they have to be both the supportive personality of a VP whilst also being presidential themselves-- and be presidential while holding 0 electoral mandate to hold the Democratic ticket. This is difficult, and needs time for voters to digest a multi-faceted individual. All I'm saying is Biden is cutting it really really close for time, announcing a candidate that everybody-- even the loyal Biden supporters, knows is gonna be President if you vote D.

They're in an awful catch-22. He promised a black woman (his first mistake, narrowing the pool so severely right out the gate like that), and at the moment the black vote is, well, volatile. The options who agree with the party insiders on most platform issues all have records as cops or prosecutors that resonate poorly with the current demands for reform, and they cannot risk depressing the black vote this year by putting forward the Old Guard on that issue. But the ones who appeal to the protesters all are saying radical nonsense about abolishing police departments that'll turn off the moderate majority they need to sway to their side in November.

Plus there's the rarely discussed feud currently happening over the official party platform, because Bernie winning CA means he has enough delegates that they need him to publish their agenda for the election. All sorts of intra-party civil wars are happening over not being far left enough on immigration, healthcare, and education reform. Which, again, poses an obstacle to getting the moderate vote.

My favorite meme about Tim Kaine is how no one knew who he was and still doesn't 4 years later
He's the guy Hillary finally paid back for volunteering to step down as head of the DNC ~6 months after the party got trounced in 2010, nominating her campaign manager to replace him so the non-Clintonite purges could begin.

I didn't say anything about Bernie still being a problem because I couldn't confirm it, but I'd heard rumors that he was still in the running, even if his campaign stopped. That's just pouring fuel on the shitpile.

What do Kiwis make of the announcement that Joe isn't gonna make a physical speech at the convention, and instead will phone in from his basement to make a rousing (pre-recorded) speech?
If they were gonna make the play to take him off the ticket, I thought the Convention would've been the optimal time, if there was one. So now we know he intends to go all the way, and also his VP pick will have to make the Sophie's Choice of getting revealed via Zoom with Joe-- meaning our first impression of her is also that of a disconnected hermit. The other option is having her be in Milwaukee absent Joe, and be all alone on stage, acting as vector for both sycophants and angry communists. I'm genuinely leaning towards the first since going to Milwaukee absent your running mate may be a great Girlboss moment, it also leaves some bad optics when angry antifa leave a load of smouldering wreckage and broken windows just by being in your proximity.

They are literally relying on the idea that the average American hates Trump so much now that they will vote for Biden because he isn't Trump.

I wish I were kidding, but they are that fucking stupid.
Yeah, that strategy worked out so well for Kerry and Mittens; and they were much stronger candidates than Biden. Voting against someone instead of for the other guy never works out that well.

My guess is Biden goes with Susan Rice because Kamala is too unlikable and then the two of them will run on "muh Obama nostalgia". I mean, I could see it working. I'd give them a 50/50 probability of victory, but Biden is still so feeble on so many fronts.

Sweet Jesus! This is satire-level. Who could possibly be enthusiastic about Biden at this point?

How inspiring! An answering-machine message from Sleepy Joe himself while in the cellar bathtub!

Independent swing voters really want a VP that has served in an elected executive office before according to a Hill/Harris X poll. Couching the campaign so obviously in Obama worship is starting to look like a sign of weakness.

TBF he promised a "Woman of Color", so maybe not black, but that doesn't widen the pool much.

I got an idea
You know how in TV ads nowadays they have racially ambiguous people who could be hispanic or white? Just get one of those and give them a Spanish last name, BOOM Colored Person VP.
Wait did I say colored person? Did I just have a Biden moment?
