Yeah, about that...

If a cop serves you with an arrest warrant, it's not false arrest. You are going with the po-po unless you're willing to go full tard and try to fight the law. Technically, the cop is just a process server (albeit one who doesn't just give you the papers, but carts you off).

Tricks like this are actually common. I remember a while back, one jurisdiction swept up a BUNCH of outstanding warrants by sending them all letters saying they were lottery finalists. Good times.

He won't be tried before the election. If they intentionally fumble it will depend heavily on what things look like then. I'd think they throw the cop under the bus to send a message to cops though.

This is why you shouldn't trust cops and shouldn't talk to them without a lawyer present or, arguably, at all ever. They can lie to you without any penalty at all. This isn't a bad thing from their perspective, as if they can get you into the station without having to come get you, there's a lot less opportunity for things to go sideways and end up with someone shot.

Keith Ellison is an ideologue and he is not going to flub the case on purpose. If he does fuck it up it will be from overconfidence from being "on the right side of history" and misjudging the jury.
