Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

I don’t recall much but I remember XI fans had a reputation among fans of ther mmorpgs at the time of being immature weebs who only got into the game because it was Final Fantasy. A lot of XI vets glamorize how awesome the community was back in the day yet everyone was so anti social and dramatic. It’s funny seeing XI fans today trashing XIV fans for being weebs that only play for the Final Fantasy brand when they too were hated back in the day for the exact same reasons.
It's even funnier because XI players who play XIV used to (I don't know if they ever stopped, mind you) frequently bitch about why XIV can't be more like XI and couldn't take "Well, just go back to playing XI then if you hate XIV so much" as an answer.

r/shitpostxiv has their own special breed of lolcows who bitch about how awful the game is yet still pay the monthly sub but when they deliver they deliver well.

Also my favorite type of XIV lolcows are hardcore 1.0 apologists who have ARR and Yoshi-P living rent free in their heads. Most of them overlap with rabid XI fans who memory hole how shitty and hated their own community was at the game’s peak back in the mid 2000’s.
There are people like that? I remember that failure being front fucking page news for weeks at a time where I didn’t touch MMOs.

Felt it appropriate to cross post this FFXIV cringe from the SJW thread.

Yeah there are. There is one dude in particular whose entire Reddit history on the mmorpg subreddit screeching about how pissed they are that Yoshi-P didn’t make XIV the dream FFXI sequel they wanted. Also they are super autistic about XI being better and always takes the opportunity to trash XIV whenever it is posted about on r/mmorpg. Meanwhile their beloved patch 1.23b wouldn’t have been possible without Yoshi-P. He even called Yoshi-P a “master manipulator” once for some reason.

Speaking of Yoshi-P there is no inbetween for the guy in terms of fandom reception. You have people who think he is a god who can do no wrong or people who want his head on a stick and blame him for every grievance they have with the game. The guy isn’t perfect at all and has made some choices on the direction of the game that I heavily dislike but I’d take him over Tanaka any day. There are still Tanaka apologists around too.

I thought the Coincounter nerf was stupid when I saw it but apparently it's not as bad as I thought. It's not a full telegraph AoE, it's one of those AoEs that only flash for a moment when it's already too late to escape just so you understand what happened.

Shitpostxiv is full of people that will never be happy with the game. Been tons of sperging from content creators/hardcore raiders as well bitching about how there's no content, yet they'll stay subbed to the game because they don't want to acquiese to people who tell them to unsub.

Didn't these retards get Eureka, one of the worst pieces of content made for the game? It seems nowadays that people look back favorably on it.

Looking at the Reddit or Discord history of a lot of these people explain a lot, and then you realize you shouldn't be giving a shit about any of these people.

Speaking as someone deep in the new player experience, I actually appreciated getting instagibbed by coincounter. It made me realize that not all enemies will put out obvious "move retard" indicators, and I might actually need to pay attention to the enemy cast bar. AV was also one of the first dungeons where I got to do more than just spam ruin or art of war for 95% of the time, so I had a little bit of fondness for it in that regard. Yet I can see how for someone that's been around the block, it's just tedious.

I really hope they make healers more interesting in the next game, though. But from what I'm reading, sounds like a pipe dream - word is they're simplifying it all. Bit of a shame I missed the part of "healer pet class" that actually used the pet. Moving it to stand in the areas where you want its dinky AoEs to hit isn't exactly fun and exhilarating management, and spamming broil or art of war isn't really a good time. AST sounded neat, but it also sounds like they dumbed it down from its earlier, wonkier state -- and this patch further dumbed it down. While it looks to be that this streamlining has overall improved the performance of the classes, I can't help but feel like I'd rather take some inefficiencies or a higher skill floor if it makes a class more engaging to play. I hear tanks have a similar issue, but I'm not really familiar with them. Beyond that UNGA BUNGA looks... very very boring to play.

I also suppose that the game still roundly beats out its competition in terms of how fun it is to play, but I'm still smarting from how WoW managed to smooth out classes from launch to a great spot in TBC/Wrath, only to go overboard with homogenization and simplification to the point where classes were all variations on "just drool on your keyboard a little" up until the top 1% of content past that. It's alarmist paranoia for sure, but - c'mon, just throw in a little bit more things for a healer to do during downtime.

I love how people have been praising Eureka lately despite the fact that it was torn to shreds when it came out. Even Japanese fans were pissed off according to some players translating thier forum posts.

Also I never understood why this community gets so pissed off when you tell them to unsub. They always say something along the lines of “I still like this game but I want it to be better.” Well one of the best ways to do that is to, you know, stop giving the company money. It’s the typical mmorpg Stockholm syndrome.

True, I still think people are overreacting to a boss in a dungeon that nobody even likes. Besides Coincounter is one of the easier parts of AV and its reputation of being a noob filter is overblown. If you really want an example of horribly nerfing an actual noob filter look at Amdapor Keep and the removal of the bee adds in the Demon Wall fight. And that was a (previously) max level dungeon required if you wanted to make a ARR relic.
Though it is weird that Coincounter gets this nerf but the Chimera in Cutter’s Cry is left alone.
Most of the time I saw people die to Coin a lot because they couldn't tell that they were supposed to run away or they couldn't figure out how far away they had to actually be in order not to get clipped. I agree that giving him an aoe ring is kind of unnecessary as all it takes is for someone to tell the others what to do. It's really only a problem for new players but ah well. They figured it was worth it I guess.

Edit:

Also, side note, you can dodge the attack.

I like how simple the healers are. Most other jobs in AV don't do much more than spam 2-3 buttons.

This game's community is autistic as fuck. If something does 2% less damage than another thing, it's "garbage", "useless", and you're "griefing" by playing it. It's no wonder the developer decided to homogenize everything. One frequent problem you had in Stormblood is how other healers in pugs would just try to rank on fflogs instead of doing any healing.

For some, this is the only game they play. It's also their only source of accomplishment in their lives. Thus they want the developer to provide them infinite raiding; easy enough for them to complete and brag about, but too hard for anyone else to do. If it's not that, it's setting retarded milestones, such as completing the content the week it releases, or you have down syndrome because it's "easy".

I need to get back into 14 at some point.
I remember 11 fondly, though being a summoner was a nightmare at time, with ques for the yingyang robe mob actually causing me to wake up at odd hours.
14 was definitely much easier to get into and level through, and I loved the instances a lot more, as it was less dependent on finding the right person to carry you.
I just gotta figure out how to access my account again XD

I was in an FC where the leader was a massive FFXI sperg, when we did Eureka he complained about how Square Enix either took the wrong parts about FFXI or did all the good parts about FFXI wrong. So depending on who you ask FFXI sperg have never ever gotten what they wanted after 2.0 existed and 14 became a "wow clone" I mean "EverQuest clone" or whatever term they want to use to downplay FFXIV's success. Most people forget that FFXI is the exception, not the rule, to MMO design because the designers for FFXI had legit no idea how to make an MMO they just took the concept and did random shit with it.

AV's early in the game so I get that a lot of jobs don't have much in their kit just yet, but it moreso marked the first time I actually needed to heal people. It's just frustrating that the more competent your group, the more likely it is that you're just going to spam 1-2 buttons for 95% of the encounter while throwing out an oGCD heal here and there. Couldn't they let me keep Miasma and the thing that spreads AoEs that I got while leveling ARC to 30? That'd be a whopping 2 more buttons for AoE pulls, and yet it'd be all the better to have the option to maintain. I suppose AST became the healer of choice for putting in a bit more effort, but that's getting trimmed.

The obsession with parses and fflogs seems retarded to me if it's to the detriment of completing the actual content, but I guess I've never understood the faggy, pathetic desire for validation that this new crop of MMO autist embodies. Seems like it's one thing to install a meter and make sure you aren't deadweight, but another entirely to let someone die so you can fart out another 20 DPS to wave at a group of sweaty losers bereft of the ability to communicate to other humans.

The new weapons look pretty fucking good.
I'm glad they put some effort into them aside from "lol make them glow"

Wew lad.

Just finished the story which took me all fucking day lol.
Trial was great. Wiped only once and by then I had gotten the hang of what exactly to do for the fight.

That ending had me in tears. Story so good, make me cry like a weepy eyed bitch.

I was more excited the entire time than anything else. Game did pull at my heart strings on occasion. Although I have no idea how they'll have the story play out in next expansion, this expansion wraps in a nice bow.

Huh, I just skipped the entire cutscenes because reading is for fags, I might watch them later... When im completely bored.

Promestein, you're disappointing me and making me sad. You would have watched the cutscenes if Korone was watching them.

I got yelled at by my friends for doing it as well, so I went back on my alt and did the entire 5.3 msq, this time without skipping the cutscenes.
And it was still underwhelming, except for the last 3 quests which made it worthwhile.

This expansion really makes you feel bad for the Ascians, doesnt it
