Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

What do you main and why? I’m leaning toward Astro because I liked SCH but eventually found it boring, but I started on Monk a long-ass time ago and the scuttlebutt is that it’s getting a much needed rework.
AST! it’s my favorite healer class and one that i can say i’m pretty decent at.

I'm getting back into the game after being away for years and I have one question: why the heck can't Viera wear hats? Literally just cut two holes in the model like they do for cats.

Apparently since august 11 the free trial has been expanded to an even higher level cap than before, so I think I'm gonna give it a shot during the weekend.

Just be aware that the base game sucks serious ass until you get the mount, and then proceeds to suck marginally more tolerable ass for a while thereafter. It took me three attempts to finally get going with a character - but after I finally chugged through everything and got to the good stuff, I got hooked. They've streamlined a lot of the early shit now I'm told from 5.3, but still go in expecting to be bored out of your mind for quite a while until the payoff.

My Mrs has this exact same question since she’s all about hats on her characters. She scrapped the character after finding that out and went back to her first one.

What the hell is the next one even going to be about now that
The main Ascians are straight up fucking gone? Was the guy talking to Zenos after Estinian and Gaius got wrecked Elidibus or some new guy?
I’m assuming we’re starting a guerrilla war in Garlemald. How bad is the relic weapon grinding? As I said earlier in the thread I’ve taken months long breaks from the game since January and haven’t even settled kn a new class yet.
5.4 and 5.5 will set up exactly what's coming. We'll probably kill Zenos before the expansion while getting a glimpse at what's going on with the rest of the sundered Ascians. The expansion will probably be set around killing the actual Zodiark, visiting Sharlayan to learn how to do it and potentially setting up a conflict with Hydaelyn. I'm pretty certain Sharlayan will be key because it's been mentioned so many times and there was a heavy nod to its culture in 5.3 and part of why the Scions/WoL would need help is because Zodiark is currently implied to be on the fucking moon

I'm going through the Anima Weapon for BLM and it's not that tedious, it just costs a metric fuckton of tomestones which you usually get from doing dailies + Praetorium anyway. But yeah the only reason you'd want to do the old relic weapons is for the glamour.
It's not that tedious because you're doing a relic that is 4+ years old and has been nerfed into the ground a dozen times. When it was relevant, just one of the steps required you to farm 24.000 tomestones (the Phantasmagoria of its time, i.e. uncapped max level tomes) and that was only half of that one step. The highest payout for those tomes was running ARF over and over at 150 tomes a pop, meaning a total of 160 runs. The first step of the Anima required you to grind countless FATEs and there were a lot of people that eventually gave up when they went through >1000 FATEs and still didn't get all their drops.

The relic weapons are always meant to be the biggest grind in the game. People cried a lot about the Eureka weapons being tedious but they were actually the easiest relics up to that point.

There are some hats that do this.

my guess is that they didn't feel like going back to the old hat/helm models and modifying them for viera

I hunkered down after I got into Heavensward and against my better judgement, decided to make Ragnarok Zeta. It took about six days of genuine autism grinding, dusk until dawn, no brakes. It will put a hole in your gil wallet because the (((perfect))) materials are sold on the marketboard for 30k-40k each and you need 8 total iirc, and thats on top of the required 400,000 gil goldsink and the 80,000 Company Seal sink you need to afford Bombard Cores. Then theres the book grind step that comes before that, and if that doesn't give a normal person enough burnout to stop playing for a while, I don't know what will. At least flying in base game zones likely make that part nicer, but still. There are also two steps that practically require unsynced 12-24 runs in Tam Tara Deepcroft to "speedrun", each run taking 4-6 minutes depending on your level and gear.

Tl;dr don't do it unless you really have your heart set on a weapon skin.

I meant the relic for the current xpac.

Yeah they also mentioned that there will be an alternative way to farms mats like in Heavensward if you didn't like Eureka iirc

btw how was everyone’s feeling on eureka? i’m still on the first island.

that's only an issue if you play like a WoW zoomer OMG GOTTA RACE TO ENDCAP NAOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
the trial is literally that, a trial. either use the free time dicking around and figure out which job to level or buy the game and be done with ARR in a week.

I was exhausted after I finished I think Pagos? Whichever it is where it's an ice cave. Then I learned I had two more zones and god knows how many more upgrades and I called it quits.

Pagos gives me vietnam flashbacks.

Those goddamn chokepoints with those goddamn dragons. And placing quest objectives smack in the moddle of a pack of mobs that can 1 shot you.

Eureka was awful but kept people subbed, not surprised to see them bring it back. Most of your time you'd spend AFK as there were too many people trying to spawn notorious monsters. Lots of bullshit quests, spamming the same 3 buttons over and over to do dps on bullet sponges, and let's not forget Baldesion Arsenal. You had to join some asshole discord run by mods who are probably the most awful jannies on 4chan and voice calls where you heard +10 people eating chips at the same time. If you just wanted to pick a portal to do the content, the mods would run this giant blacklist and try to get you cancelled from the whole community.

I don't know how far the trial goes up to, so I'll give you the whole of ARR. What's actually -fun- in ARR?

The trial is basically a way to get an impression of the systems that the game uses, all the little features, all the little extras. Fiddling around to see if you like the way quests are structured, the way crafting is done, so-on. But the game is fucking boring for almost the entirety of ARR, the dungeons are simple, and the classes are basic. You'll never be in danger out in the world, the story is completely unengaging, and your biggest threat in groups will be the retards you might get lumped with.

Maybe it's true of most MMO trials that your impression from the trial alone will be that the game is boring horseshit, but I feel the need to impress that it gets dramatically better in this one at 50. Whereas in retail WoW, it's that same flavor of being bored out of your fucking mind until you reach the veeeeeery tip-top 1% of the content.

ARR may be better now that it's been revamped. I'm not going to find out for myself tho

Word is that they took out somewhere in the realm of close to 20 hours of fun, exciting, exhilarating fetch-quests and go-run-over-there-then-back-to-me storytelling. I heard they took out having to run Qarn as a part altogether. Most people joke about the game taking ~40 hours to actually get enjoyable, so if that cuts in half the time you have to spend in the languor, that'd be wonderful.
