Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Coeurl is comfy at least.
You couldn't pay me enough to go back to Coeurl.

Seems simple and comfy at initial glance. Has a whole bunch of low-level lolcows and troons wanting to be server celebrities when you start knowing your way around the community. At least, that was most certainly the case only a couple of years ago.

Really? I don't really spend my time around the community and the worst I thought it got were the retards AFKing in Limsa and other areas.

Oh yeah, most definitely. Granted, I don't know anymore about the state of things on Coeurl over the last two years since I left it, but it used to have a massive "server celebrity" culture thing going on around the community for certain raid groups and, in particular, this one troon named Revie (whose name and self-proclaimed gender seemed to change on a weekly basis) had a fairly huge linkshell dedicated to their fellow troons and ass-kissers on the server in which they complained about how oppressed they were as troons and shittalked anyone on Coeurl whom they didn't like. And at the risk of powerleveling, I happened to become one of those people on this crazy troon's shitlist at some point.

I also used to be an officer for what was one of the biggest FC's on Coeurl for years and, while I never personally involved myself in the social state of affairs on the server all that much, some of my friends played the social butterfly game with the server themselves, so I got to hear how bad things really were a lot of the time from them, with the unfortunate side effect of being forced into parties with a lot of Coeurl's most cancerous people due to friends' connections.

Is Primal a decent serve? Because that the server I chosen

Primal is fine, if fairly milquetoast and middle of the road. We don't have the ERPs of crystal, or the hardcore raiders of Aether.
If you're looking to raid, there's a decent enough raiding community, there's enough shitheads to cause drama, but not enough to run into them constantly. There's RPers, but the creepy tells are pretty much non-existent. There is drama, but it's primarily limited to the social/FC circles and doesn't spill over much.

That being said, If you end up in a shitty FC, don't feel obligated to stick around. Drama hwores ain't worth it.

Also, I'm either late to the party, or a gaylord, so fuck it. Here's a room on the kiwi matrix server to talk about the bEsTNoNwOwMmO! https://matrix.to/#/!wdNOjwHdLiFLLbxNoP:matrix.kiwifarms.net?via=matrix.kiwifarms.net

ARR isn't like that. It just ain't fun, man. Yes, the assumption is that shit will get better, but it doesn't do anyone any good to pretend it isn't mind-numbing. "Better than shit" doesn't speak well to what the leap in quality actually is.

I enjoyed the ARR zones more, HW was way too big which made them feel even more empty and dead than the old zones after squeenix made fate trains pointless. HW also might have better story, but the only difference is you run around less for longer cutscenes. like I said I never got to that triggered even by the seven astral era quests since I did them on the side while doing other shit.

underutilized overworld is probably one of my biggest gripes with the game, there were so many different solutions to get people out there to do shit while waiting for dungeons (fate daily for specific zones for example), it's incredible how ass backwards the whole overworld design is. I mean who in his right mind though levequest resetting once you port out was a good idea, on top of being already limited?

Considering levequests are a relic of 1.X design, you can fully blame the game designers of that one for that.

SE has been trying for years now to get their overworld populated more, with various levels of success. I think the FATE-linked rewards was the most successful of the bunch. Other things like specific drops from specific FATE bosses just meant everyone gathered to nuke that one boss, then ran off again once they were done. Sure, spectacular when it happens, but as content grow outdated good luck finding anyone to help. (I had a pretty cool experience though where randos gathered to help a newbie with the Cancer Crab FATE. Got up to like a dozen or so who just joined without prompting, a full half were level 80s who otherwise were just passing through for whatever reason.)

Sometimes gms are cunts, but sometimes.... even if they have to do their job, they can be awesome.

I'm gonna have to say, the whole trial I was waiting for a musical shift into the REAL final boss music.

There's a super obvious moment for it to happen, too.

It's a fine fight, but I'd rate it weaker than Tsukuyomi or Nidhogg for that reason. Those were really emotional trips just on the music alone.

If someone's done the EX yet, does that have a second theme?

the new EX trial?
No, it doesnt have a second form nor music, it just barfs more "new" mechanics at you with increasingly edgier dialogue.

quintuple cast can go fuck itself though, god im glad i got my weapon from it already.

The low level dungeons as astro make me want to die. Switching back to Scholar and Dark Knight asap.

Ruby and Hades were harder and more fun imo.
This one is just... tedious, and I swear Elidibus sounds like a kid with autism.

So I started playing yesterday and I spent then and this afternoon just getting through the beginning, doing all the busywork quests and such and levelling to about 11 or so. I picked gladiator as my starting class so it put me a circular desert city. Don't have much to say about the gameplay but I heard the first iteration of this game sucked and then its rework was framed in-universe as bahamut blowing everything up and I guess that's the cataclysm the characters are talking about? I thought everyone would've just gone extinct but I guess not.

Hades EX made me rage. Only because if you wiped, you had to start all over from the beginning and watch that Goddamn cutscene over and fucking over again. At least Ruby had the checkpoint.
Holy shit there's only so many times I can watch that Hades cutscene.

Nah things got blown up and a shit ton of people died but not everyone. It was considered a calamity because so many people died. There's a raid series in vanilla that basically explains what happened right afterward.

Edit:

I haven't even touched SoS EX yet. I'm tits deep in crafting shit and fucking busting a clit every time I try to overmeld 20+ materia only to have every single fucking one of them fail after spending hours grinding the fucking scripts to buy them.

Hades cutscene ain't got nothing on E8s. Ask me about progging knockback mirrors. Christ.
I can imagine looking at a 13 year old little girl float around naked while calling her dragon daddy to do the fusion dance with her gets annoying fast.

LIGHT RAMPANT... i have yet to clear that fight because fuck having to put weeks of prog just to handle one mechanic that belongs in a ultimate fight and not a savage...

Hello World and Past's end would like to have a word with you.

Titan ex at og latency - because fuck what the aoes say, respond at least a full gcd ahead or die.

The landslides.... the landslides
Reminds me of a guy I used to play with whose net was so bad that, on top of the jank server latency back then, he had to learn to pre-dodge all of Titan's mechanics at least two or three moves before they went out. You haven't truly seen some shit until you've watched someone who is constantly on the verge of a 90k learn to finagle their way around a mechanic-heavy fight.

Makes me a bit fond of a lot of the "newer" mechanics in which a visual AoE indicator doesn't go out until right when you pretty much have no time whatsoever to get out of it, so you have to know where to position ahead of time, like in an EX or Savage fight, or you die (like the basic dragon divebombs in SoS normal). Takes me back to those good old days in the sense where you have to be OUT of the AoE well before it actually finishes channeling.
