Community Tard Baby General (includes brain dead kids) - Fundies and their genetic Fuckups; Parents of corpses in denial

noma is pretty common in places with grain shortages these days, or places where kids have really bad nutrition. nations vary, last time MsF was discussing it, it was prevalent in the DNC, this was a few years back. Sierra Leone too.

there's occasional cases in the US, there was a small set of cases in Utah and a few in the southern Appalachians in the last ten years or so.

Here's a case report from India. TL : DR - he was also diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was hospitalized. I did not know that disease existed there.

Every disease exists in India, praise śītalā.
They've even got polio in plenty. I'm personally surprised smallpox isn't there, that it was actually eradicated. That country keeps me up at night.

Appalachia has a proud history of self-dentistry, so I'm not surprised (seriously my family is originally from there and my great-grandfather extracted his own tooth with a nail.)

There's also shit like trachoma that we've never managed to stamp out globally. That's the bacterial infection that can lead to permanent blindness. People in third-world countries are trying to fight off parasites and eye-infecting bacteria while we have access to modern medical care and are eating ourselves to death instead.

A family member is an RDA, and has been on work trips to Appalachia.
Babies there are given soda in their bottles as newborns, and dental hygiene in some of the really backwoods places is non-existent.
It's an uphill battle trying to convince some of the people there to brush their children's teeth, much less their own.

If you want to know, it goes back to blood being thicker than water. I've seen this shit a lot honestly in the rural hospital I worked at.

"If grape soda in the baby bottle was how my momma raised me it's good enough for my kids." Yeah and also I'm just thinking that's why you're in my emergency department today because you have a necrotic diabetic heel ulcer. Maybe don't let your kids share your same fate.

So I'm in the long and expensive process of getting some dental implants because genetics fucked me over on that count and shafted me on most of my adult teeth. It's a symptom of a rare umbrella genetic disorder but I don't bring it up much because it's not as serious as others and it doesn't affect mental ability. Regardless I've never had any cavities, gum disease, or other dental problem growing up. I took good care of my baby teeth and they lasted long after most people lose 'em. So when I see people have dental problems that could be easily avoided I have ZERO sympathy for them. Sure, as children they don't know better but the parents should as hell know better. I wish I could have traded mine in for one of theirs if they're going to lose them from bad hygiene anyway.

I don't understand how parents would sabotage their kids from the start. Medical and dental care is expensive, at least here in the US. I've seen the idea that people who don't want kids are probably the best fit for parents BECAUSE they understand how hard it is and everything it takes to raise a healthy kid. Not all of course, but I can definitely relate to that. "Preventative" dental care is super cheap. You can probably buy a toothbrush, floss, mouthwash and toothpaste for under $10 at a lot of grocery stores. Heck, a tongue scraper only adds a few bucks if you get a plastic one. Not drinking as much soda actually saves money too.

A LOT of parents don't give a damn about their kid's baby teeth, because "they're just gonna fall out anyway!"

But RDA has shown me photos of cavities in baby teeth that reach the adult teeth below, and having to remove baby teeth early because of rot means adult teeth will come in crooked.
RDA doesn't like going on these trips now, said it's like beating your head against a brick wall. People refuse to listen to the dentist, and don't floss, brush, or do any sort of dental hygiene for themselves or their children. All they can do is fill cavities and pull rotten teeth.

I finally realized what her mouth looked like.

I collect old medical books, and in the pre-antibiotic era, there was a facial infection called "noma" which was usually fatal, and if it wasn't, left them permanently and severely disfigured. Doctors in 3rd world countries and war zones still sometimes see it; it's associated with malnutrition and uncleanliness.

It looks a lot like that; Google Image it at your own risk.

god why did I look that up

tbh I feel bad for her and honestly kind of hope she's retarded just enough to not understand the cruel shit about her appearance people who aren't kind enough to keep their mouths shut are gonna say. (.... that said, fuck how horrifying) eta: wouldn't doctors try to make her some cosmetic lips or something like that?

I can't remember what channel it was (maybe Discovery?) but last month I was watching a show about kids with serious deformabilities living in third world countries, and how doctors are volunteering to try and help them. One kid had these massive tumors all over the side of his head and shoulders. He was able to get surgery, except for some scarring, he was okay.

The one that was really sad was this girl who had these warts or something growing on her tongue and mouth, and her lips just puffed up like you would not believe. She looked so horrid and she would wear a mask like the covid-ones everyone's wearing when she went out in public.

I'm sure the other parents are thrilled that only one student is getting one on one with the teacher and said child looks like she is completely unaware of her surroundings.
Parents like this are the worst.
Is she on a breathing machine?

It’s great, in Florida, in a class full of kids and adults with Covid raging through the state. The mom obviously disappointed Ainsley hasn’t caught the coof yet so had to up her efforts to get her infected via needless and mask less dance class attendance

That was exactly what I was thinking.
A kid like this would be at greater risk of catching covid.
How completely insane do you have to be to risk your kid like that for a stupid dance class?

This might sound mean, but what about the other kids in that class? I never did ballet but I played sports growing up and I would probably feel a little weird with a kid like her in class with me. They can't actually participate, and might take time and attention away from actually practicing when there's no point. Perhaps she'll sit on the edge of the stage if they do any recitals as "participation".

Like, maybe exercise is pretty important even for kids like this. But why force them into a class when they can't actually do anything? From the pictures the teacher/carer is just lifting up the edge of her chair. What does that achieve? It's certainly not ballet.
