Yeah the population of blacks has gone down from 19% in 1800 to 13.4% today, but that's because other demographics started showing up in large numbers.

Not only that, but it looks like criticizing Islam, especially those practicing extreme versions of it, is also a no-no. Unfortunately, I'm willing to bet Facebook takes advantage of at-will employment laws so they can claim someone was fired for a reason -- no matter how questionable or flimsy -- unrelated to these so to make it more difficult for the fired employee(s) to file a discrimination suit. This document, however, could be problematic for them in that regard.
Additionally, I believe many chemo patients -- especially those recovering immediately following a round of chemo -- have weaker immune systems and exposure to outside air during that period could make them seriously ill or even kill them. There's not words to express how one feels about BLM protestors shamelessly vandalizing a Ronald McDonald house where sick kids are fighting for their own young lives in the most literal sense.
It's also worth noting that places where the locals banded together, set individual ideologies and differences aside in some instances, and made it clear outside agitators -- organized or not -- were not welcome there have had little to no trouble.
Celebrities and athletes never seem to grasp that the same freedom allowing them to express themselves by kneeling gives spectators the freedom to appropriately express their displeasure to the kneeling. As has been posted elsewhere on the 'Farms, people use sports as a form of entertainment and escape from the real world. They don't want to see the same political posturing from which they're trying to take a break.
When I was still in IT, a large (yet infrequent) corporate client contacted my bosses because the original vendor they had hired to write software for a mall event had done such a piss-poor job that they wanted to part ways with him and have us finish coding the software so they could get it tested and debugged before the event kicked off -- roughly 1 to 2 weeks from the day we were contacted.
The bosses sent a coworker and me to meet with the client's contact person. We were quickly brought up to speed about the current state of the project and received a copy of the Visual Basic source code for us to take back the office. Once we had a chance to copy and load the code there, we saw that it was written so badly that it made @SickNastyBastard's spaghetti code described above look well-written. Worse, the code was written without Option Explicit. For non-coders, this means that typos in variable names would simply create new variables and unpredictable results instead of flagging the typos as an easy to fix error. Looking back, I'm not sure how my coworker and I managed meet the deadline and give the client what they wanted and expected from us.
As for recent riot events:
- Not surprised police are pulling out of Portland when the DA is simply dismissing all the charges made against law-breaking protestors. If the Feds get involved again, expect even more drama than the last time.
- Given how contentious Chauvin's situation has been already, I'm not surprised the defense is taking the normally unheard of position of wanting the trial completely public. I'm not sure how much of a difference it might make in the end because those who have already prejudged him innocent or guilty probably won't change their minds, but I'd still argue it's necessary with all the manipulation and spin already occurring -- especially in terms of the full bodycam video.
- As others have already said, the areas of urban prairies are within Detroit's city limits. Many are on the east side of town, and some of those are the result of speculators buying up vacant land and promising redevelopment or industrial hubs that have never come to fruition. Others are the result of people that are able to move away doing so only to have scrappers, vandals, and arsonists destroy the vacant buildings to the point that there may only be 1 or 2 houses remaining on a given block with the rest of the block consisting of vacant lots with grass so long one has no idea what's hidden inside.
- While Detroit's suburbs are largely insulated from the protests happening inside the city proper, lower class people -- black or otherwise -- have slowly begun to move into the suburbs immediately surrounding Detroit and bringing their drama/crime with them. The people I know that live in such suburbs hate it, are legitimately concerned for their well-being, and want to stay as safe as possible while they look for the opportunity to move away if and when it presents itself.
- For those Kiwis anywhere near the protests, especially the violent ones, continue to stay safe yourselves.
