Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

People don't want to get tested. Ya think? Ya think? Ya fucking think? Unless you are badly sick, why get tested? We know those tests aren't always accurate. We also know people who never even showed up to test are being notified of positive results. Believe testing is just one way to let "them" know who you are so you can be apprehended later and placed in a "quarantine facility". Perhaps people realize this is all just a power trip on "their" part, especially when you compare most of the ChiCom Flu numbers to most of the "regular" flu's numbers.

I swore off ever getting tested when I heard of that one group getting tested and then being prohibited from going to work / forced into quarantine / what have you for 2 weeks while awaiting the results. Fuck that. If I start feeling ill I'll discretely tell a few local friends in case I collapse and can't reach a phone, but other than that, screw it.

Besides, we know the results of the current tests are bullshit. Doesn't the common cold still cause a false positive? Why would I care about a worthless test?

Nasal Swab (PCR) tests have a roughly 1% false positive rate (1/100), just due to casual PCR issues.

Antibody tests do have a chance of mistaking antibodies from 4 of the weaker Coronaviridae considered "common colds", at least the last I checked. (Most "common colds" are Rhinoviruses); but I'm not sure the ratio of true positive to false positive.

It almost begs the question if epigenetic memory has an easier time building COVID-19 antibodies if it recalls the format for weaker human Coronaviruses.
Additionally, as some papers suggest T-cells play a bigger role in the immune response to COVID, there is also the question of how T-cell memory would react to cells infected with COVID after having been exposed to a weaker coronavirus.

The most reasonable answer I can come up with is asymptomatic infection and transmission. I took my test to make sure I didn't somehow get COVID-19 asymptomatically after I attended an event where both state and event-specific COVID-19 rules weren't being followed by most of the people. I interact with enough seniors, a group that's considered higher risk and more vulnerable, to get tested just to make sure I was right about not having COVID-19 and doing my part to make sure I wasn't unknowingly spreading it. Otherwise, I'd agree that people most likely won't get tested if they feel fine and have no indication they were put at risk for COVID-19.

In other news, a northern Michigan pub's owner(s) and staff are speaking out against the patrons that get rude -- and flat out nasty in some cases -- when they're asked to follow state rules on wearing masks and social distancing.

(Archive: Brewpub Speaks Out)

While I understand that there are people that can't wear masks or take other precautions, I'd agree that threatening staff and leaving hateful social media reviews is the sign of Karens at their worst. The patrons also need to realize that the restaurants are between a rock and a hard place. While allowed to be open again, Governor Whitmer has made it clear she will use the legal system to force compliance or penalize anyone perceived to be breaking her guidelines with a fine, criminal record, and the loss of any necessary business permits/licenses to allow them to be open. As a result, they have a vested interest in making sure they follow the applicable regulations and keep patrons as safe as they're able.

We're having that problem here in texas. They keep relying on cases

It's the same in Ohio. DeWine does it because deaths and hospitalizations have either remained relatively flat or dropped, and there's legitimate questions whether they're counting those as From COVID or just With COVID. Given that 2/3s of Ohio's deaths are from nursing homes and the average age is 78-80, I'm guessing there's a lot of With COVID deaths. DeWine also pushing cases, hospitalizations, and deaths reported on a day, which always includes numbers from sometimes months ago they're just now reporting. Nothing to do with the actual numbers. Which they do give, you just have to dig for it. Don't even get me started on his stupid Color Coded county emergency map, which has counties listed as a level worse than the metrics say they should be, and his travel advisory to Florida still lists it at 19% positivity, which it's been under for weeks.

Ohio's rate of transmission has been under 1 for almost 2 months now and I think we dipped under .9 this week, but DeWine just keeps ratcheting things down more and more, even though everything was already dropping before all of his stupid mandates.

Classes start here on Monday. The partying has been out of control the last two days. Worst I've ever seen it. I don't know why, I guess the kids have had this shit bottled up over the last six months and need to get it out of their system. Pics going around on Twitter of the bars here packed to capacity. Cops busted up a frat party with 400 people this afternoon. Nobody is wearing a mask.

The Twitter wokescolds are losing their minds.

Got two separate emails from the university president and the dean of the college plus a text from the school's emergency alert system bitching about how everyone has been "irresponsible" over the last week and claiming that "they're putting the semester at risk".

It's going to be real interesting what happens. Either this thing is real or it isn't, and these party schools in red states are going to give us an answer real quick.

If only we saw such stern finger wagging while America was being burned to the ground for the last two months.

After all the cheering the "experts" and governors did for BLM, forgive me if I don't take their concerns that seriously.

Besides, at least these parties don't burn businesses to the ground and commit borderline insurrection.

I need a opinion or two on a situation I witnessed today.

If someone is following the city's guidelines and not wearing a mask while working outside, operating a charity booth, and some stranger strikes an aggressive pose nearby and, with the flashing eyes of a PMSing shark, starts forcefully pointing at his own masked face, what is the charity worker supposed to think? I have my own opinion but I doubt it is what it was supposed to be.

Beat the shit out of him with the charity booth before strangling him with his own mask. And then beat him some more for good measure. And then force him to repair the booth that was broken in the initial onslaught. And then strangle him some more.

Edit: I misread the question as "supposed to do" rather than "supposed to think", lol. I guess "This guy's a knob, I wish I could beat the shit out of him with the charity booth before strangling him with his own mask. And then beat him some more for good measure. And then force him to repair the booth that was broken in the initial onslaught. And then strangle him some more." would be a perfectly rational thought.

Me before the rona and the riots: can't we all just get along?

Me after: we must cleanse the earth of every libtard with fire!

The shutdowns are super polarizing, but I think more people will start defecting to the open shit back up side. I hope the left's gamble backfires spectacularly. Or maybe I was the only one?

I just learned that "social distancing" isn't really a "Current Year" term. In the December 2009 issue of National Geographic, it's mentioned (using quotes) in section on the swine flu.

Of course I never heard the term until 2020, so it must've stayed obscure until people realized they could use it as a buzzword.

Did you know that the 6ft distance comes from a 14 year old's sociology paper and not any actual scientific research? Was laughed at by actual researchers? Said 14 year old's father, I think it was, worked for the DoD and Sandia.

So you can get both sides:

I was wondering how the coronavirus germs somehow magically couldn't travel beyond 6 feet (180 cm) -- or 2 meters if using metric. Or how they magically can't just travel around those plastic sneeze guard things all the businesses are using now.

Like I said, how this whole thing is being handled is a circus.

Of course Trump's brother's death was met with a bunch of memes, Trump jabs, jokes, and Covid taunts on social media.
How fucking scummy can these people get? I don't like Clinton, but if Bill died I wouldn't be laughing about it.
Have you seen how sociopathic Kpop stans on twitter are? And they're just one example.

Can't wait for the day when people find out wearing masks fucks up the immune system and destroying the economy was more destructive than covid could ever be
I wonder what it’s going to do to the immune system of the current crop of young kids in school. You need exposure to germs to build up your immune system. Kids being muzzled with masks and banned from hanging out with their friends or playing outside in the dirt and on playgrounds is going to do more harm than good. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see cases of allergies and auto immune disorders surge even more than now because of healthy kids being deprived of germ exposure. Just vaccinate your kids and keep them from germs and viruses that could make them severely ill.

Sorry for the autism this is just something that has been on my mind. I am not a health expert so maybe someone could weigh in on this matter.

"wHy dO yOu WaNt KiDs tO DiE yOu GeRm tHeOrY DeNiEr!11"

No but for real I agree with you. There were even records showing vaccinations for shit that actually kills kids are down this year, with the likely cause being fear of COVID keeping people from taking their kids into the hospital.
