I used to hire niggers out of some misguided sense of "fairness" . One fat nigger even showed up in his dad's mercedes for a shovel job. Every single time, without fail, they would start muttering "massa" or "baas" and I'd fire them at break, sometimes as I was eating their lunch or drinking their coke. Never again. I have a very liberal actress friend who always used to spout all the typical woke platitudes. So finally she writes her own show and gets some good funding for it and manages it to get it staged at one of the bigger off-broadway houses - like a step below broadway. She hires a whole production staff for the show. Halfway through it she calls me because she needs to vent. She says, "I don't get it. I have a whole staff working on this show. Almost everyone is white except the stage manager and the choreographer; they're both black. And they're the only two who consistently show up late, are never prepared, and are always bitching about how they're not getting paid enough and want raises. Why is it that it's just the black people I hired that are like that?"
So I replied, "Wow - so all it took was for you was to have to hire black people for you to become racist". The silence on the phone after that was priceless.
Even better, a few weeks ago she calls me to vent some more. She's a veteran actress who's been in a lot of Broadway productions and like many she's been suffering in the wake of Broadway being closed. She says to me, "Broadway's closed to next year. No one's worked all year. Now a number of plays have put out casting notices that they're re-casting with an all black cast." She sends me photos of the recent casting notices for the play "Tootsie" for when Broadway reopens and indeed it now says "Person of color" for every role. They're recasting "Tootsie" with an entirely black cast.
She says, "Black people already have black only plays! They have 'The Color Purple', they have 'The Lion King'. They also have 'Aida' which is all black except for one role which is white. And they just announced that moving forward they will be re-casting the one white role as black only. Now when Broadway reopens, there's going to be a ton of actors fighting for whatever roles there are because none of us have worked and they're taking those away from us by wanting to just cast black people for white roles? How the fuck is this not racist?!"
Amazing...I've been friends with her (and have played on some shows she was in which is how we became friends) for over two decades. She was always a typical liberal actor. I never spoke politics with her or tried to convert her. The past few weeks she's been posting some aggressive anti-Trump stuff, which she never does. I asked her what's up with all the hardcore politics all of a sudden. She says, "I have no choice. A couple of actors have mentioned that they haven't seen me support BLM on my facebook wall and they want a solid answer if I support it or not so I have no choice. I don't support it but I'm getting threatened." All it took to start shoving her towards the right was BLM. Keep going BLM - you're doing the Lord's work.
Even better, I asked her, "So why are you bitching to me? You're preaching to the converted." She replies, "You're the only one I can trust. Who am I gonna call? Other actors? If anyone heard me saying this, I'd never work again."
