Like I said I just started watching Original Trek and TNG so I don't know how accurate Bobs take on both series is. He could be right that OG Trek was more action packed than TNG because of the circumstances behind the scenes and budgets, but he saying it in a way that makes him look like a complete asshole. His view on the two Trek shows could be based off only seeing a few episodes of each series and making his usual smug, arrogant judgement on an entire group of people. Or his entire view on Trek is what hes absorbed from Pop-Culture osmosis, Kirks the rugged two-fisted man of action and Picards the solemn diplomat and thats his reason for liking the OG over TNG. Point is Bob seems to be basing his views on Trek on the most shallow reasons possible; how much action it had or how much puss Kirk got.

After watching most of TOS in recent months (missed a few episodes I need to go back on), I can say that Bob falls into the same camp that thinks JJ Trek was an accurate homage to TOS, the ones that think Kirk did nothing but run around punching and/or fucking every alien he laid eyes on. Truth is, there are plenty of episodes where Kirk tries to find a diplomatic solution to a problem. Sometimes his methods are unorthodox (like sealing himself and both enemy faction leaders in a cave with retardation gas), and sometimes there's a fistfight involved (see above), but Kirk would do his best to reason with his opponents and work out an amicable solution.

Really, it all boils down to tone. TOS is more melodramatic than TNG, but both series present similar sorts of problems that the Enterprise crew have to overcome. Picard is certainly more reserved than Kirk, and generally handled situations in a more calm and collected manner, but it's a gross oversimplification to claim that Kirk is just the beat-'em-up captain.

Like @Pokemonquistador2 said, Bob likes TOS more because of the skimpy 60's costumes. He can dress it up any way he wants, but I guarantee that's the truth.

I can totally see it. Reminds me of the episode of the Simpsons in which Bart had an evil twin that was locked like an animal in the attic which was openly disregarded and everyone pretended it didn't exist. I think Bob would be in the same situation if his family was harder on him.

But on the second part i can somewhat relate. Thanfully i got a job that was heavy on talking to the public and i can operate like a normal human and know what and what not to say in public. The thing is that when all your human interactions are based on the internet you lose a certain sense of "normalcy" on what constitutes a genuine conversation with someone. You either swear every 2 words, put references to pop culture that are absolutely idiotic or, like Bob, you use words that you don't know the meaning of (his condescendence is built in and he just needs a bakery's worth of humble pies to curb that).
