I think I'd stop by and donate to the prison abolition cause and mention how I had an "uncle in prison" who was a white supremacist currently in federal prison for targeting Jews, Mexicans, black people and gays, and how I'd love to see him back out on the streets doing God's work again. Serious answer, the Presiding Bishop Michael Curry was on site interfering with the construction of that pipeline a few years ago, it wouldn't surprise me if the hierarchy had blessed some other monkey wrenching. Yeah, even for the suburban mainline Protestants, the Episcopalians are something else and are right up there with the Unitarians. I've always had this theory that they were probably targeted by the KGB and Bezmenov'd just like the media and academia were around the same time.
The Episcopal Church was historically probably the closest thing the United States had to a state church or dominant religion, and nearly all of the Founding Fathers were either Episcopal or had paid lip service to it. Very few presidents were not part of the Episcopal Church
Thomas Jefferson was a Deist and the only president who never identified as a Christian while John F. Kennedy was Catholic, Andrew Jackson and Jimmy Carter were Baptists, Martin Van Buren was Calvinist, and I'm wanting to say Nixon was a Quaker, or one of the more conservative offshoots of it.
The National Cathedral in Washington DC, while officially non-denominational and multifaith for legal reasons, is typically administered by the Episcopal Church.
I figured targeting the church that historically was the largest branch of Christianity within the United States prior to the mid-20th Century would be part of that wider demoralization on the KGB's part.
