Or Jack Thompson. He got death threats yet that didn't stop people from criticising him in the harshest manner possible, but when Miss Anita supposedly got death threats for saying similar things, she pretty much becomes a sacred cow.
There's a reason why Anita became a sacred cow while Jack Thompson didn't. Aside from the fact that most people view a younger woman getting death threats as more disturbing than a middle-aged man from Florida getting them, there's the fact that Anita was smart enough to know the old Religious Right completely lost the culture war years before she began her grift.
Being a fundie was out and being a progressive liberal was in back in the early 2010's. Anita was in the age group who knew this better than anyone and knew that if she cloaked her arguments in left-wing feminism as opposed to morally conservative Christianity, the Boomers and Gen X'ers in the gaming industry and media would more likely believe it and a lot of them seemed to be convinced that left-wing moral guardians didn't even exist since the traditionalists had been the avatars of moral authoritarianism for so damn long.
The Last of Us Part II's controversy and failure is her last hurrah and I'm pretty sure she's looking for the next grift since she's only going to be more irrelevant and powerless from here on out.
I'd say the Call of Duty: Cold War trailer with Yuri Bezmenov is one of those things that will most likely be remembered as a bellweather of the growing backlash against the Woke Left given how mainstream that franchise is. Anita probably knows this too, especially when you combine this with the fact she was already fading from the spotlight and had been told to fuck off by an AAA studio before in 2019 with Cyberpunk 2077.
I'm wondering what her next grift will be. Depending on what she decides to target next, I think it could be a lot harder for her to try to move onto greener pastures. She's become too much of an icon of the Woke Left, even if she lost most of her relevance within those circles she also was one of those figures who made it mainstream and was a media darling for a while because of it.
After Last of Us Part II, she's probably persona non grata in the video game industry and she's a lot less likely to break into the tabletop gaming industry unless the zealots at Onyx Path or Evil Hat take her in. Even Wizards of the Coast is less likely to have the baggage she brings associated with the D&D or MTG brands since they're way too profitable and Hasbro would likely veto it if they see how much money she'd waste as a consultant.
WOTC may be super-woke now but they're also late to the party and are more likely to drop it like a rock if it hurts sales too much for Hasbro's comfort and RPG.net continues its decline as an online community.
