This year could end with a bang.

Scientists recently spotted an asteroid on a direct collision course to Earth — projected to hit a day before the presidential elections in November.

The flying space object, known as 2018VP1, is expected on Nov. 2, according to the Center for Near Objects Studies at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

The asteroid is 6.5 feet in diameter, according to NASA data, and first identified at the Palomar Observatory in California two years ago.

The space agency says there could be three potential impacts “based on 21 observations spanning 12.968 days, with the chance of a direct impact less than 1%.

Let's imagine Biden actually does win and then drops out a few months in to give Kamala the Key to the Castle, how would the chances be for Kamala Harris to get reelected in 2024?
I don't think we need to worry about Biden willingly dropping out. I think the much more plausible possibility is Biden keeling over and then Kamala becoming president because of that.

Really, Biden is just a Trojan Horse for Kamala at this point. I have no doubt the DNC expects Biden to drop dead soon after he gets elected, and for Kamala to immediately take over.

Even if he does seem to unexpectedly make it to inauguration if elected, I think he'll undoubtedly resign for health reasons and Kamala would take over either way.

Isn't that amazing? We see a man-sized rock over 280k miles away and also roughly predict its trajectory from that same distance? Awesome.

An other far-fetched scenario I thought is what if Biden was forced to abandon his presidential run before the elections for health reasons?

He CANT. That is the fun part. Once you are on the ballot, you cannot be taken off of it. Even if you are dead and in the ground. In that fun scenario, if a dead candidate is elected to office anyway, on inauguration day the Vice President will get sworn in, and then Chief Justice will call the dead man to take the oath of office. When he fails to show up, the the Chief Justice will declare the office vacant, and then offer the oath of office to the now Vice President as President.

For this to happen though, it would require the American people to be stupid enough to elect a dead man to office. I suppose it could happen if the part pushing it was very clear the vote was for the Vice President nominee and not the President....which let face it is the case here. This is not Trump v. Biden. This is Trump v. Harris.

That's terrible.

How will I be able to vote for Trump if I'm dead?

The House of Representatives reconvened for a rare Saturday session, passing legislation to address concerns about the U.S. Postal Service. The bill would provide $25 billion in emergency funds to shore up the U.S. Postal Service and halt any changes to the agency’s operation until after the November presidential election.

The vote came just one day after the USPS’s newly appointed boss, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, testified before a Senate committee on Friday, reassuring lawmakers that his agency could handle the expected influx of mail-in ballots.

Still, Democrats moved forward with the vote, which passed on Saturday with 257 in favor and 150 against. House Democrats voted unanimously for the bill, with 26 Republicans also voting yes.
The bill reflects Democrats’ concerns that delivery delays could affect millions of Americans and the November election held during the coronavirus pandemic.

The bill appeared unlikely to move through the Republican-controlled Senate, though. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Friday that concerns over the mail-in ballots was a “nonexistent problem.” He didn’t say whether the Senate would schedule a vote on the bill. The White House threatened to veto the bill on Friday evening.

The debate about funding and cost cuts for the Postal Service has heated up lately. Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California called the House back earlier this week from its August recess to vote on a bill blocking some cost cutting at the Postal Service——an effort by DeJoy to overhaul the financially struggling organization and curb its longtime losses.

Though it is a government entity, the modern post office functions as a self-sustaining business that raises funds through postal products, not from taxpayers.

The cost cuts have led to delays in mail delivery, as well as the removal of some mailboxes and mail-processing equipment. Democrats are worried that DeJoy—a Trump donor appointed to the postmaster general role in May—is making changes in order to hinder the Post Service’s ability to deliver mail-in ballots in time for the November election. Last week, the USPS announced it would suspend those costs reductions until after the election.

“Don’t pay any attention to what the president is saying because it’s all designed to suppress the vote,” Pelosi said before Saturday’s vote.

The Postal Service warned in July that mail-in ballots may not arrive at election offices in time to be counted if they are sent near Election Day. Election rules in many states do not allot enough time between when ballots need to be requested and returned, the agency says. This had added another layer of uncertainty ahead of the high-stakes presidential contest.

The Postal Service lost $2.2 billion in its most recently reported quarter. Despite the surge in package delivery volume thanks to the exploding e-commerce ordering from homebound consumers, the volume of mail——including first-class and marketing-mail——has fallen faster than expected.

Congress allocated $10 billion in funding for the USPS under the Cares Act, its Covid-19 stimulus plan, to help offset the damage from the pandemic. More funding is being considered as part of another stimulus bill, but the Congress failed to reach agreement before the August recess and those talks have been halted.

Investors have found opportunity in the post office’s struggles, bidding up shares of FedEx (ticker: FDX) and United Parcel Service (UPS). The two logistic giants have seen rising package volumes this year due to the pandemic. If the USPS raises prices to fix its financials, more shipping would likely shift to competitors. UPS and FedEx shares are up 64% and 69%, respectively, over the past three months, while the S&P 500 has gained 14%.

I see their desperate attempts to energize the base are reaching a higher gear:

The narrative on this is that they're "undoing changes" not trying to push mail-in ballots.

Gaslighting is fun!

This is probably not even going to make it to the Senate floor.

Mitch won't even let it be heard.

More importantly though it is NOT the Federal Governments responsibility to insure the States hold fair elections. Trump is well within his constitutional authority to order the Post Office to suspend all service for the next few months. If the States want to send mail in ballots, they can pay for it out of their own coffers and use their own officials to do the mailing and collection. It is not the role of the federal government to facilitate the elections of the States.

I don't see what was so bad about Trumps quote. I mean, he did say that black didn't vote for Hillary because they liked him so I don't see an issue with that. It's certainly no worse than the quote where LBJ supposedly said that niggers will keep voting for the Democrats for like 200 years or so.

Didn't even notice that they were trying to push a dishonest narrative, though when you look pass the forest to see the infected tree, any narrative immediately becomes worthless to pay mind to.

It might, we did have about two dozens Republicans vote for it. The problem is that if it does pass the Senate, Trump will not approve of it and then the Democrats have to put in the extra work to get the House and the Senate to vote for it again. Thank god I'll be voting in-person in the likely case this falls apart.

Plus, how the fuck do they expect to do universal mail-in ballot in a month and a half anyway when transitioning to doing that would take years?

Mitch won't even let it be heard.
The only bills from the House that should come to the floor are the ones we can hang around Kamala's neck for the election.

Like I think the House passed a bill last year to provide funds for a study to look into the implementation of slavery reparations. Mitch should bring that to the floor and make Kamala vote on it.

Kinda like the Green New Deal vote. If she votes Nay or Present, the Dem base will shred her. If she votes Yea, the GOP will use it against her.

This bill calls for some crazy stuff. But I don't think it's worth putting Gardner and Collins on the spot for it because they have to vote too.

Washington Postal Workers Defy USPS Orders And Reinstall Mail Sorting Machines

Postal workers in Washington State have reinstalled high-speed mail sorting machines—dismantled after controversial orders from the U.S. Postal Service— despite USPS orders not to put machines back in use.

After embattled Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced he would pause recent controversial changes to U.S. Postal Service protocol, the service told workers not to reinstall removed equipment.

40 percent of the high-speed mail sorting machines in the Seattle-Tacoma area were disconnected or dismantled since the changes went into effect, according to NPR, with workers in the Tacoma, Washington sorting plant saying eight of their 18 machines that sort and postmark letters were disconnected and pushed into a corner.

Sorting machines in Wenatchee, Washington were also reconnected, against the orders of the Postal Service’s head of maintenance, Kevin Couch.

Only two facilities, Seattle-Tacoma and one in Dallas, seem to be ignoring the Postal Service’s directive to leave decommissioned sorting machines out of use.
