Trump Derangement Syndrome - Orange man bad. Read the OP! (ᴛʜɪs ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴅ ɪs ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴋɪᴡɪ ғᴀʀᴍs ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡs ɴᴏᴡ) 🗿🗿🗿🗿

"Under God" isn't even religious. It doesn't describe God, or prescribe man's duties to God, or say that God has shown special favor to some group. It's just an affirmation that there is no higher human authority over our nation. No foreign king or emperor.

While an interesting take, I feel like it's disingenuous. "Under God" pretty clearly means exactly what it says. There doesn't need to be any greater assertion of God's power, favor, or influence for the word to refer to a deity, and claiming it has a secular meaning seems like not only weasel wording it but simultaneously eliminating the entire point of defending the phrase.

"Under God" pretty clearly means that our nation is united and under the guidance and authority of a single divine being. The better point would be that if you're someone who doesn't agree with the concept of God's existence or the idea that our nation is united under God's influence and guidance, oh well, learn to get the fuck over it since it doesn't actually affect you in any way at all. It's either a statement of your personal beliefs or it's just words, either way it's not doing anything to you, same as crosses on memorials or nativity scenes in yards.

I know the nuanced reasons for leaving out “under God”, and I agree, but I also ascribe to the Occam’s Razor on this one.
It’s because they are euphoric and enlightened by their own intelligence, number one.

To me, it's like censoring old WB cartoons to remove any appearance of guns or explosions, to "not promote violence". At that point, why bother showing the darn thing if you're just going to swiss-cheese it and potentially remove crucial parts of the plot?

Say the whole thing, or don't say it at all.

If you're THAT offended by it, pick something else.

None of this "edited for today's sensitive citizen" bullcrap.

Self-censorship is not a virtue, and more vile today than it's ever been.

Why is Putin waiting until Trump's second term to teach him some "nifty tricks" about silencing critics?
By "Putin" she means the progressives. And by ""TEACH trump SOME NIFTY TRICKS" she means violence that'll surely follow.

If the progressive didn't have double standards, it'd have no standards.

We opposed the Pledge because it smacks of authoritarianism to force kids to swear loyalty to a government (yeah!) and an endorsement of God when not all kids are religious (Right on!) and there's nothing good about swearing allegiance to a nation comprised almost entirely of racists and sexists (wait, what?) who've never done anything good in the history of humanity except finally die off so we can fix their mistakes (Uhhh...no... see....) through liberal ideology, which you now must pledge to or else we'll run you out of town as a Nazi, you aren't a Nazi, are you Timmy? (Fuck off, now I'm gonna say it just to make you mad)
I never got this concept, my only problem with the American pledge is that it wasn't patriotic enough.
Mexican schools did it better: pledge and rituals are done on the first day of the school week around second period, students gather around the main school grounds military style as the model students parade the flag, school marching band play the anthem to the flag, we then sing the national anthem and do the pledge to the flag with a Roman salute; once the model students march off with one last play of the anthem of the flag we then get our announcements and news for the week. American schools can learn a thing or two from that.

I don't personally have a problem with it these days, because I'm an adult (allegedly) and not a wimpy teenager looking for a meek way to rebel that nobody would notice unless they looked real hard.... but still "counted" as being edgy...... by 15 year old standards.....

In fact, nobody had a problem with it until the euphorics and busybody proto-SJW 90's PCist stepped in and MADE it an issue.

That sounds like an EXCELLENT start to American schools.

The only difference should be that the middle schoolers go through their Eagle Ceremony before it concludes.

And the elementary have to watch to know how it's done and see the suffering of those with insufficient patriotism.

Of course I'd also have it drilled into the kids that they are pledging to the COUNTRY and IDEALS, that the government is just a means and can be replaced if it betrays that which they pledged to.

Every American High School should do the Foward March as part of morning routine as they blast and chant the Battle Hymn of the Republic

No! MORE PATRIOTISM! Make the boys dress up as Uncle Sam and the girls as Lady Liberty while they march and sing!

Wait... MORE! And they all have to have muskets!

AND at the conclusions of their march, there will be dummies dressed as redcoats which the students must shoot with their muskets!

Yeah.... that's getting close to enough patriotism.

Incoming negrates.

The pledge of allegiance is a fucking joke. I have no obligation to be loyal to a government that doesn't care about me. I legally participate in the American system solely because it, at a base level, benefits me. Deep down, that's why most people participate in it. A couple of pretty sentences does nothing to establish any sense of loyalty or patriotism in anyone, it just makes those that are already jingoistic feel good about themselves.

My allegiance is to my ideals and principles. It just so happens that they line up pretty nicely with where I live.
