Startups are a little more likely to just be interested in someone having competence - and so a self-taught coder with a wealth of experience is more likely to get grabbed for one of those than is some schmuck who got a degree and little else. More than likely, people aren't going to suddenly go on vigilante sprees or shooting invader sprees- they're just gonna move. The US is extremely stable as a country despite its useless-ass politicians and a bunch of joggers and college students running amok in a handful of cities - we're not short on foods or consumer goods, and the economy (while still wobbly) has performed much better than the doomsaying at the begin of the Coof projected. We have a looming debt crisis, but no-one cares about that shit (and it'll fall hardest on the leeches, really, when that bubble bursts).

New York and California's budgets are fucked right now, and they're gonna be seeing a lot of people leaving in exodus if history rhymes (sortof like, like poetry).
