'90s kids may remember a movie called Gridlock'd. It was one of the last things Tupac Shakur did before he died. Tim Roth co-starred, and the two of them play a couple of smack-addicted jazz musicians who hit a turning point and decide they need to kick the habit. And so you get this kind of screwball black comedy where they bounce off friends, family, the underworld, and the government trying to get their shit straightened out and get into rehab.

The movie is basically sympathetic to them, and of course they're both enormously likable actors, but it doesn't quite let them off the hook, either. There's a scene where they're giving a harried welfare bureaucrat a hard time, and the guy turns around with a classic monologue and just rips them a new one: "You fucking walk in here after, five, ten, however many years, and because today is the day you decide to kick, the whole fucking world is supposed to stop? Is that it? We all have been waiting for the day that you come through that door and tell us you no longer wanted to be a fucking dope fiend?"

I think about that scene when I see Jake complain about every bit of help and free shit he gets. Jake chose, from the beginning of his adult life, to be a bum. He chose to get no education. He chose to learn no useful skills. He chose not to get a driver's license. He chose to never get a job. Christ, many people who live their lives fatter than Jakey (including lots of the deathfats forum here) get out more, have less paranoia, and seem like they're able to have a better time. Even that one idiot gainer who ate himself to death, Chance or Chase or whatever, hadn't alienated everyone in his life.

I have a feeling Jake is one of those people who keeps weight on as an excuse not to do other stuff. He's so resistant to the idea of dieting advice not just because he's a narcissistic asshole, but also because his weight gives him great reasons not to do things like get a stinkditch, or walk to the store to buy groceries instead of ordering delivery pizza. The leaker also could have been a troll from the start, rather than a regular who decided to turn on Jake. If you read through the logs, there are occasional moments where weens hit and run the place, so at least at some points the invites weren't strictly controlled. Which is actually kind of odd, that Jake would be willing to set foot in a discussion forum that wasn't locked down to his paranoid liking. Although as we've seen, he was still very guarded there. He apparently shared more selfies through direct message than what we have that he was willing to openly post in channels.
