That's great until you want to stop M855. AR500 has trouble stopping M193. You have to buy armor for the threats you face. M855 and M193 are two of the most popular loads in the US for 5.56/.223. I personally would not disregard them from a threat list. You can get Level IV plates that weigh less than 5lbs and Level III Special Threat rated at near UHMWPE weights, you just have to be willing to pay.

If you have the extra money, then it is not a bad thing to have. Your plate carrier can also double as a chest rig. I like having my battle rattle ready to go and self contained. On my vest I keep absorbent gauze and quick clot. Plus 120 rounds in 4 magazines. If I ever need to leave I can grab that vest and my go bag. My plates are level 4 and will stop armor piercing rifle rounds.

My go bag has a water supply, sleeping equipment, fire starters, rice, and soon fishing equipment. I need to get some tourniquets, thermite precursors, and a sewing kit.

I keep my moloch armor well-polished and smithed, keep a stash of foo-slaying quarrels just in case, have a dozen spare scrolls of chaos resistance and 3 blessed pairs of seven league boots in case I'd have to avoid getting surrounded or had to walk fast through the wilderness.
