It seems that some of these rioters are ACCELERATING, just not quite in the direction they think they are going.

Well, having been to college in the past decade and lurking in a few spots in the internet, I can tell you.
Most of them know all about the Russian Revolution, the Vietnam War, and a few other Marxist takeovers. They look at it, see that a (relatively) small handful of people with guns were able to force the law enforcement and guard to back down while they went on their burning and looting spree, and they were largely able to take over.
They don't look at the fact that in Tsarist Russia the Tsar had fucked up his PR image and the country was going through serious upheaval. They don't look at Cuba and the like being horrible shit-holes, they just see "People rose up!" and think they'll just need to get away with popping a few cops and forcing them to run and the entire system will collapse.
Most of them are convinced the military won't go at them, or if they do, and this is where it gets funny...
They think that with no training, no
real gear, they'll be able to take on the United States Military in street fighting because it worked in Russia in 1917.
That's why the body armor is an interesting escalation. I'm sure they'll say it's to protect them from paintballs and the like, but it really does is provide a magic charm, thanks to movies, that even military bullets won't hurt them. By strapping on a vest full of playdo they're now invulnerable, which means the cops, private security, and home-owners can't stop them.
Notice that they're bragging about going out and practicing with their weapons. They've built barricades across streets, and are coordinating on Twitter and Facebook (Both companies should have insurrection charges pressed on them for allowing it) with full "Nothing will happen to me. Even if I get arrested, the friendly DA, which means the government is actually on my side, will let me go!"
They think the Long March of Communist and Socialist infiltrators into the government and military (Fag Boy Vidman and others) mean that they now have the support to burn down the existing government and install themselves and who THEY choose as the leaders.
They're reached the point now, according to their playbook, where they WANT to instigate a fight with the cops, because they think that a shoot-out wins either way.
Either they have martyrs to recruit with

They defeat the cops, and since the cops are militarized, there's no way the military can face them.
They're accellerating toward the end game because there has been little to no response from the Feds, and the National Guard deployment made the Nasty Girls into a fucking laughing stock and all the Marxists and the like think about with the military is that everyone is too stupid to go to college, the Long March put their own in positions of power, and they can take on the military because the military lost to uneducated bronze age goat fuckers in the Middle East, so of course the educated vanguard of the People's Struggle, who have nothing to lose but their chains, can defeat the US military.
They're accellerating toward end game.
