Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Yeah I know a number of people who hate Covid-19 restrictions but follow them anyway to avoid getting into shit. Dont feel alone just because you are the only person in your area who doesnt wear a mask. You can probably get people on your side just by pointing out some of the reasons the lockdown is stupid. Speaking of which This study shows that asymptomatic people have a much lower chance of spreading Covid-19 than symtomatic people.

Thank you kindly. I never feel alone. Indeed, I point out why the house arrests are stupid, give them CDC numbers for the "regular" flu and the monthly US death rate. Just bought a mask saying "This is stupid. Think for yourself." Just my own small way of fighting for freedom. 👍

Added: I put on a mask as I go into a public building, remove it the second I'm out. Just my of telling them I'm wise to their bullshit.

Lol, as if. They know better. Our military aside, most civilians armed to the teeth, many with military training. I know there are a lot of boogaloo larpers, but there are just as many who have some idea what the fuck they are doing. Big part of why no one has had the balls to attack us on our own ground since WWII. We will grind them into hate and despair, nukes aside.

Armchair strategist time: There's a risk that China could drown us in bodies... IF they could get here.

Fortunately, the US Navy is most dangerous military machine that has ever existed in the history of the human race. They'd play a rousing game of Sink the Chink until the ocean floor was paved with commies.

Perhaps, but military history has taught us that overwhelming numbers does not necessarily equal defeat. Also depends who they are pulling from. Many ethnic groups are not happy under CCP. We might turn them with luck.

So Idaho is trending on Twitter. Wonder why?

"Treated the rioters mighty nice"? The DA is literally letting Antifa and BLM riot and try to murder people in the street and not charging them, letting them out to do it same day.

Nice to see the Queen of the Karens freaking out about something. They REALLY want to keep the country shut down till the election. And I guess they're not too keep on this "post police" world they were asking for, eh? Or was that only for Marxist true believers, and rural Whites weren't supposed to take advantage of it?

Weird thoughts:

If these idiots really do plan to carry out this insanity for 2 years (if not more/forever) wtf is going to happen with major events? Will conventions just not exist anymore? Is Japan gonna be perpetually cucked out of hosting the Olympics like they were supposed to this year? Business conferences?

I don't see how trying the creepy dystopian "cardboard audience" crap that sports have resorted to would work out with such things. And shitty Zoom calls can only do so much when it comes to big meetings between businesses, and sure as hell wouldn't be practical for conventions long-term.
Just pray the retards in charge of this get voted out in November.

Weird thoughts
It would be a truly hellish world if hugs, public gatherings, interacting without screens, and no one wearing masks become relics of the past. And yet there are most definitely assholes out there who want people to be enslaved like this - at least until an even more hellish "new normal" is summoned from hell.

As I mentioned before, one of the local theaters reopened today, so I went to the movies to support them. Plus I hadn't been to a movie in six months, and I was itching to reclaim something that had been taken away from me by this stupid virus panic.

There wasn't a huge crowd there, and it was a little surreal going back inside for the first time in half a year. Most of the promotional displays had been taken down since nobody really knows when any movie is coming out anymore, so the theater looked a lot emptier than it did before. They wanted you to wear a mask inside, but once you were in the theater, you could take it off if you had concessions (kind of defeats any slight purpose masks might have had, but I don't care). Tickets were cheap and concessions were discounted, so I got some popcorn and a Coke and headed in the theater.

I honestly can't tell you how happy I was to be back there again. Say what you will about modern Hollywood and the garbage they put out, going to the movies was my ritual, the main activity my best friend and I would bond over. It was a huge part of my life, and going without for six months really drove home how important it was to me. Didn't hurt I'd been meaning to rewatch Inception at some point anyway, so this was a good excuse to do that and get a full theatrical experience out of it. They're doing a showing of Tenet next week, so I'll probably go see that too. Gonna do whatever I can to support my theaters.

There's still a lot of bullshit with this fucking virus, but any bit of normalcy I can reclaim, I'll take it.

Food run. Local Kroger used to have a guy at the front door offering masks and hand sanitizer, with signs everywhere.

No guy, no signs. Double checked outside the door, no signs.

No mask for me, then.

Only incident was a Karen seeing me in the isle and flipping a U turn and running the fuck away from me. I kept my headphones on the whole trip, so if anyone tried to screech at me I ignored them to death.

Feels good man. Sanity is beating back against the stupid.

How is covid 19 novel exactly? I get that it is a new strand but dont new strands of viruses come out all the time?

It's my understanding that it's not a new strand, it's a virus that jumped from Bats to Humans, meaning we've never seen it before.

New strains of viruses do come out fairly regularly, and, technically, they're all novel. It's literally just a descriptor. It's just that most, say, novel influenza viruses aren't notably different enough in terms of transmission, lethality and the like to really be worth noting outside of the people making vaccines. Occasionally, you'll get one like novel influenza virus H1N1pdm09 (the 2009 swine flu) where it merits attention, but most are just...pretty much the same as the old one.

So first off taxonomy is a crapshoot because nature doesn't fit into clean human definitions, the issue with viral taxonomy is they are less complex and evolve exponentially faster than species further up the complexity ladder.

This is a known species, basically its the same species as SARS (CoV1) and hundreds of other bat-specific strains.
This is a new "strain" where in viral taxonomy strain is used as a stand-in for subspecies (or more accurately but less technically "breed"). What is known is that it is closer to several of bat-specific strains than it is to SARS (CoV1), and then at the species level the group is collectively sister to dozens of bat-specific betacoronavirus species and the "common colds" OC43 and HKU1.

The virus is novel because (supposedly) its never been recorded/studied until now (assuming the ChiComs are stupid, rather than liars).
The disease is novel because humans have never had an outbreak of this specific strain.
Now lets say something well-known, for example Ranavirus FV3 suddenly made the jump from froggies to human hosts. It would still be a novel disease despite being a well-studied virus, in part because while we know what it does to frogs and toads, we don't know what it does to human tissue.

Now all this being said, COVID-19 a.k.a. SARS-nCov-2 is actually pretty fucking tame when you realize its the same species as the OG SARS which had like a 10% lethality rate, and sharing a common ancestor with the "common cold" OC43 which is actually known for murking babies.
