Even then, I can't fault that shot for being awkward. My marksmanship probably wouldn't be fantastic either if I was sitting on my ass with a handgun two feet away from my face, forced to take a shot because if I hesitate for more than a split second I'm going to eat a bullet to the teeth. This is the best angle I can find for where Lefty was lining up the shot. He was literally a second or two away from blowing Kyle's face off. He was already extending his arm and lining up, and there was absolutely no reason to be doing that other than to just execute the kid.
If Kyle had hesitated for one second longer, we'd not even be having this discussion.
I think you're generous when you say he was one second away from being shot. In fact, it seems that even half a second of reluctance might have meant death. This was a moment where split-seconds decided whether he'd life or die and he managed to survive.
In our current political climate, he's being vilified as a murderer by assholes and ideologues, in fact, he should be commended. He tried to get away from violent assholes, fired his gun only when that was the only remaining option, fired as many times as he had to save himself, did not shoot a single time more than he had to, and all things considered, his shots were pretty good, especially when you consider the awkward firing positions and the tiny amount of time he had to shoot.
But the cherry on top: He immediately ran for the cops to get arrested - something that undoubtedly will help him in court, too. It was a picture book version of how self-defense should be done.
If he was the malevolent monster that the media is smearing him as, he'd have ... oh... I dunno... Maybe he'd pretend to surrender before pulling out a gun to shoot someone in the face point blank range?
For comparison, look at people like that Bikelock-Scum asshole that brained conservatives from behind their back with a U-Lock and then hid in the crowd of Antifa-assholes during several protests. Look at literally any other asshole that shot someone during these protests. Kyle shot to defend himself, not a single bullet more than he had to, and he didn't try to flee, he went to the police to be taken into custody.
