My friend is having trouble finding a Black Powder revolver, let alone a normal ass one. It feels like God himself has screwed over these LARPers. If they do anything, they'll be target practice more so than an actual threat.

You are also forgetting how it keeps on turning out these violent rioters are actually criminals with priors, which can dampen their prospects of legally obtaining a gun.

On a more serious note, I think the 2020 Election will have a knock-down effect on Virginia politics in the 2020's. Depending on how 2020 goes, I can see a lot of Virginians being motivated enough to vote out the Democrats as much as possible. NoVA will still be blue as will Richmond and the college towns (Charlottesville, Blacksburg, Harrisonburg) but anything else has a chance of going red or at least purple in 2021 should Trump actually get the win.

Seriously, I know I put a lot of stock in Trump winning 2020 being a game-changer, but it's less about what Trump does and more about how everyone else will react to him winning despite all this madness. That's the kind of thing that can really energize the opposition and get more and more people to the polls to vote out the Democrats for the big state elections in 2021.

Now, if the GOP does get a second wind in Virginia post-2020, it will probably be a relatively short-lived phenomenon that'll be over with by 2025 most likely or 2029 at the absolute latest depending on how well a hypothetical GOP administration does.

Even then, I can't fault that shot for being awkward. My marksmanship probably wouldn't be fantastic either if I was sitting on my ass with a handgun two feet away from my face, forced to take a shot because if I hesitate for more than a split second I'm going to eat a bullet to the teeth. This is the best angle I can find for where Lefty was lining up the shot. He was literally a second or two away from blowing Kyle's face off. He was already extending his arm and lining up, and there was absolutely no reason to be doing that other than to just execute the kid.

If Kyle had hesitated for one second longer, we'd not even be having this discussion.

I think you're generous when you say he was one second away from being shot. In fact, it seems that even half a second of reluctance might have meant death. This was a moment where split-seconds decided whether he'd life or die and he managed to survive.
In our current political climate, he's being vilified as a murderer by assholes and ideologues, in fact, he should be commended. He tried to get away from violent assholes, fired his gun only when that was the only remaining option, fired as many times as he had to save himself, did not shoot a single time more than he had to, and all things considered, his shots were pretty good, especially when you consider the awkward firing positions and the tiny amount of time he had to shoot.
But the cherry on top: He immediately ran for the cops to get arrested - something that undoubtedly will help him in court, too. It was a picture book version of how self-defense should be done.
