High Guardian Spice - Tumblr: The CalArt Anime

Its quite obvious to me they don't want to release HGS because they're fucking embarrassed about it. A lot of Crunchy Roll originals have been REALLY good (Tower of God, In/Spectre, God of High School), while HGS looks downright fucking embarrassing compared to the others and they know they're going to get a metric ton of shit for it. I think they will try to release it as quietly as possible after all their other originals have been released to hope it dies a quiet death. I think the smarter thing to do would be to smash it between two popular series and hope it gets lost in the process. Like just not even announce it, just release it into the wilderness to die and pretend it never happened.

She isn't just "right" on that, it's what the company straight up told her.

But I love how she wants to contrast """"authentically""" diverse shows" with "diverse" shows made by white Karens, and likens the former and contrasts the latter with a hypothetical shonen anime pitched by a Japanese man.

Bitch, you're all Karens. The Japanese man is pitching to Japs, for Japs. You're all Americans, you don't have unique insight into, like, Ugandan culture so that your "authenticity" (matching skin color) could contribute to an interesting character. Despite being 13% of the population, you want a hold on 52% of the media. A Japanese creator pitching a show to an American company would make his protagonist white (e.g. Naruto's creator praised his own foresight at making the character blond)...

...but he could make him Japanese, and the only objections raised would be suspicions that an American company is stealing Japanese "valor" and excellence and using the guy as a front for wokeshit. Because 日本製 means excellence, and nigger-made means wet ass-pussy.

Very much this. Anime is basically made for the Japanese and espouses a ton of their culture, no matter the setting. They honestly don't care unless they're aiming for a Western audience, and it won't be diversity that they pitch.

She isn't just "right" on that, it's what the company straight up told her.

Then the company is one of the few that has apparently finally realized wokeshit doesn't sell, and because this grift has been pulled so often, the moment people get a whiff of wokeshit, they know they're being hustled to buy an inferior product, whether it's "new" or the (probably final) installment of a completely raped franchise.

Very much this. Anime is basically made for the Japanese and espouses a ton of their culture, no matter the setting. They honestly don't care unless they're aiming for a Western audience, and it won't be diversity that they pitch.

The Western audience that is interested in anime is interested in it to a large extent because it's Japanese, not in spite of that. They don't want it Westernized and consider that bastardizing and degrading it.

It's related alright.

TL;DW: Some nigress vague-tweeted a (kinda justified) bitchfit about her faux anime with brown chicks being rejected because the company already had a cartoon in the making that tooted the diversity horn. However the trailer for it showed off the staff and not the show. Sound familiar? She also brings up that Women in Animation is a fucking scam and a way to use unsuspecting women as stepping stones for other bitches to get jobs (and the ones who claim this aren't white).

Because of this, she's afraid a precedent is set which is when anyone sees minorities fattys and fags, their minds will automatically go "oh it's one of THOSE shows" and fuck off to the next thing. She's right. The assholes who are making HGS and others like them used minorities as means to an end and whisper sweet SJW nothings to shut down criticism and keep the grift going. What a tangled web we weave. 🚬
Same shit happened with the preachy moralizing shows from the 80s and early 90s which is why they all died by the turn of the millennium.

Ain't it amazing how the Woke Left is becoming/has become the exact same as the old Moral Majority complete with companies pandering to them to fill quotas?

History repeats itself.

Exactly this. This is why I watch anime. Because its so Japanese and exposes me to a completely different culture and set of values. I mean, obviously absorbing culture solely from anime is idiotic, but it gives me insight into their pop culture and familiar customs that aren't common in the West.

The second anime goes Western is the second I check out. Does anime have its problems? Absolutely. Romance and men being very modest when it comes to sex is something like 'wut' to me (them getting all flustered and not getting laid when they get the chance, even a fade to black is like huh). Plus the whole even lack of kissing. And 'indirect kissing' being a thing. So there is that culture of modesty that is still there.

Plus, the whole thing about honorifics which is hugely weird to me. Most people call each other on a first name basis in the West, using surnames only when its a matter of respect or someone in a superior position. In Japan, its similar, but very different. Surnames are almost always used, as it is considered a sign of disrespect to use the first name as it donates intimacy and familiarity. Which is why when couples in anime begin calling each other on a first name basis and they get all flustered its basically an alien concept to me.

It also makes names sometimes really hard to follow for Western audiences, because depending on who the character is talking to, they'll alternate between their first name and surname. Also meanings of their names in kanji is a bigger deal than the meanings of Western names, which generally aren't considered.

I know all these things are really small, but they add up to be a lot. It wouldn't be the same without them. And I think you lose something special if you just Westernize the thing. Most people watch anime and read manga because they don't WANT Western entertainment anymore. Its become stagnant, and anime/manga is not afraid to do batshit concepts at all, which the West would not even imagine doing because of the risk involved.

There's such a pushback against HGS, because a lot of major corporations and their soyboy faggot consumers push the narrative 'anime is for pedophiles', 'anime is for shutins' and shit like that because they're losing the battle with Japan in terms of entertainment. Even fucking China is getting aboard the anime and manga train.

Nice speech bro but I just watch it for the super violent action danger and cute girls, you can't get neither in western animation anymore not even adult animation

So a transtrender then?

I posted this a few months ago on SJW Art and Extremes thread, but it might be relevant again, from what I see. Geez, it might be a (cringy) joke but that would explain so much.

She dresses and acts so feminine, is into typical girly shit (magical girls, yaoi), dyes her hair pink, her self insert in HGS is a girl (unless she will turn out to be a tranny) and now she says she is an uke. Yep, definitely trans.

So basically, Raye was (and still is) just a delusional fujoshi that wants to be a kawaii little uke just like in her fantasies, not an actual man. Oh, and she already had her masectomy, isn't that cool? She certainly won't regret that sooner or later lol

(Also, what the fuck does "I act like an anime character than anything else" even means??)

Now that's some insecure manchild shit right there.

Not to mention, don't sjws fucking hate fujoshits now? Something to do with the objectification of gay men, I'm pretty sure calling yourself an uke xd would be enough to get a "yikes".

Off topic, but what's up with women being so fucking insecure about being women nowadays? I get having this sort of behaviour in middle school, but its expected to get over that sort of shit as an adult, to figure out that gender norms are norms not guidelines and that most dudes won't give a fuck if a broad has hairy legs sometimes or doesn't wear makeup.

Yeah taking the 'uke' label really dates her back when it comes to her prime weeb years. Also that doodle right *there* is just about the girliest shit I've ever seen.

We are *surrounded* by so much media (and now politics) telling us what a woman is and how to be one. And I don't mean 'here's a makeup tutorial and a new wardrobe so you can stop being ugly' like it used to be (people who didn't want to be conventional like that founded their alt-cultures and became goths, metalheads, gamers, etc). These days all of that is on steroids and on fire with modern feminism and politics involved. The status of womanhood is constantly being broadened and redefined by rat king types so now women can have dicks and lesbians enjoy cock, you've also got 'feminists' who martyr themselves and paint being a woman as the worst fate anyone could be born into, and of course classic attention whores still exist. You simply can't exist in modern day without all of this being background noise and trickling into your hobbies, your interests, in some way.

Some girls look at all of this madness and simply wish to circumvent the 'problem' of being a woman altogether.

Become a Chadette.
"You're a girl and you ___?" Yes.

As an aside do you know the one thing I really hate about anime?

How is it a show can be amazing for 75% of it's run..and then fall to absolute fucking shit in the last arc and a half.
And how is it this happens more often than god damn not?

Raye is literally a magical girl because she transformed and became a magical boy! This tweet will tell you because they are like, sooo random kawaii anime irl, desu ne!

Because more often than not, the anime is based off a manga that is still being published and they need filler to keep the show going for the last half. That's how you end up with a shitty cliffhanger or some non-ending, hoping that the show will get another season.

Raye and co. still talk about this show on social media. There's a chance it may end up showing in some way eventually.

This thread is vastly overestimating the value of quality content vs nepotism in the US Corporate animation scene.
If you want to work in animation for one of the big companies you better have done one of the following:
  • Have an absolutely enormous online following of people guzzling down your content EXTREMELY LOUDLY
  • Your relative works in the industry or a parent company
  • You went one of the University of Californias (The one for the rich kids, I forget which one) and your roommates relative works in the industry or a parent company.
  • Be able to do unpaid internships 60 hours a week for one of the corporate animation companies and have a connection to get you into that internship. (Keeping in mind this is in SF where the rent is 3x the national average so you better have rich parents).
  • Do sexual favours for the sleazy showrunners who made it via the first option.
Corporate animation pays minimum wage in a city where that rents you less than 1 third of an apartment and you don't get to eat for several years.
If I were these people who work on these shows I would be angry all the time too.

Even many manga and light novels (which generally get anime adaptations) tend to end really poorly. Some, like Bunny Drop (aka Usagi Drop) and Oreimo are more famous after their runs for their controversial and widely hated endings than for the quality of the series entire run.

Well, this is why the second half of Akame Ga Kill is absolute shit, because the manga wasn't finished and they had to rush out an ending. Anime is notoriously bad for trying to come up with anime-only stuff. Either because of creator interference, rushed deadlines, or publishers wanting to do something shocking and unexpected to titillate the audience.

There's also the problem of shit just ending badly. Like the guy who wrote Food Wars, having a literal mental break down and was super pissed at he publishers, so he made this villain with supernatural cooking powers who wanted to fuck his sister, and the main character loses at the end and never gets the girl. And she's partially brainwashed or some shit. I don't care if I'm spoiling this, because the ending to food wars is genuinely terrible. Also all the descriptions of the food crater because the woman who wrote the descriptions had to go on maternity leave.

Also Araki getting rushed during Stone Ocean. Endings seem to be a lot of problems in anime. Usually. This is partially because things they are making aren't done and they have to do something to fill that gap, or a series needs more than 12 episodes, the uncertainty of renewal of shows, the gigantic gaps between shows (sometimes 2-3 years between them).

Which is why original anime is typically more satisfying and a closed story because it has no source material to be based on and can tell a full story with 12 episodes with no expectation of renewal.

Others have mentioned why this tends to happen (anime adapted from manga before they're done and running out of source material) but haven't mentioned the reason, which is that oftentimes an anime literally only exists to advertise the manga. Now, if your goal was to make the best possible anime adaptation of of a story, obviously the most sensible approach is to wait for the manga to finish before looking at the whole thing and deciding how to break it down into a manageable adaptation. However, that's antithetical to the actual goal of driving interest and readership towards an ongoing manga.

Basically, that means you as a studio have 2 choices: make up your own ending (when the manga has no end in sight and there's little interest for another season) or just wait years in between seasons and risk losing viewer interest, because anime fans have the attention spans of goldfish and are more liable to watch trash that's new and shiny than a really good second season of an IP that's so 3 years ago. Using MAL stats (which are hardly scientific but should still demonstrate the point), Mob Psycho's 2nd season (released 3 years after the first, in 2019) had a 35% drop (1M to 650K); Attack on Titan season 2 dropped nearly 50% to 1.2M from season 1's 2.1M (4 year wait). Compared to this, a show like My Hero Academia that regularly puts out a season per year has seen far less of a drop-off.

The best you can hope for is that after the manga finishes, it gets another "proper" adaptation like FMA and Hellsing did, but even that can have its issues, as FMA:B's intro is sorta rushed because they didn't want to waste time covering material that was already done in the original anime. This is why I've generally grown to prefer original anime where the writers have a concept and can choose how to execute it in the 13 or 26 episodes they're given.

And those come off manga/anime that already had smash hits with their original anime endings or are so widely beloved that its stupid not to make a redo.

Huh.

So how it turned out. I had actually stopped following the manga entirely, like, 5 chapters after the NTR guy showed up since the writing was already that much of a shitshow at that point.
