That scene isn't even in the movie, it's from the trailer when Barb interrupts Poppy's cover of Sound of Silence with the riff from Crazy Train. There's intense red/pink lighting that makes BOTH of them look more pink. If that meme was drawn before the movie itself came out, I could understand the confusion, but it's still an ugly drawing of Barb.

I’ve seen mixed reactions to even just more masc lesbians being there, either from “my sweet princely wife that leads my hand across puddles and is strong” to “this is actually appropriation of femme culture”. The only times you see anything relating to men was people making their softboi yaoi ships living in it

Iida looks ugly (he was Generic McSquarejaw to begin with), but at least the style is consistent. Come to think of it, this might indicate the artist didn't intend for him to be generically handsome as a male to begin with.

And I never thought I'd say this, but Asui looks kinda cute genderbent. The others are all good, too.

Also I think it's pretty clear that Iida's lady look is ment to be funny. Others are pretty serious gender bends but do look blander than their real counterparts. Almost like their gender and gendered features were part of design process to form the best character. Compared to the other teen males Iida is more masculine and that's probably his most stand up feature when talking about looks. Making him anything but masculine wouldn't be that recognizable but those features do tend to make ladies wierd and so I think Horikoshi just decided run with that especially since the other two were pretty tomboyish already.
