War Trump won't stop interfering in the election - This mail-in ballots thing really is going to be the hill these people die on

Now I want to see Trump go to war against mail-in ballots and whatever bullshit Democrats will be pulling this election, just to see CNN get seething mad.

Washington (CNN) President Donald Trump is the election meddler-in-chief.

In his latest assault on the integrity of November's vote, Trump denigrated mail-in voting and in a staggering moment, appeared to suggest North Carolinians should try to vote twice -- a potential crime -- to test its security.

More evidence of meddling came earlier Wednesday with the news that Trump's Department of Homeland Security withheld an intelligence bulletin warning of a Russian plot to spread misinformation about Joe Biden's health, which mirrored the President's own attacks. The report, first revealed by ABC News, followed the Director of National Intelligence's decision to stop in-person lawmaker briefings about election interference -- a move Democrats say could shield foreign actors who want to help Trump.

If the story of the 2016 election was a broad meddling operation by a foreign power to favor Trump, the emerging story of the 2020 election increasingly appears to be an attempt by the President to use executive power to swing the election his way. There has never been a modern American election in which a President has so publicly and unashamedly tried to portray the sacred quadrennial exercise in democracy as corrupt.

Trump's attempt to discredit mail-in voting got a strong assist from Attorney General William Barr, who declared that changing to such a system would be "reckless and dangerous," in an interview with CNN on Wednesday.

"This is playing with fire. We're a very closely divided country here," Barr told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on "The Situation Room." Asked for evidence to defend his claim that foreign adversaries could dump large numbers of fraudulent mail-in ballots into the system, Barr told Blitzer: "Logic." US intelligence officials have said there is no evidence to suggest that the election could be threatened in such a manner. Barr also claimed that China, not Russia, was the most active foreign foe in interfering in the election. Last month, intelligence officials said that while Beijing wanted Trump to lose, Russia was making a far more aggressive attempt to hurt Biden.

Barr's comments will stir fresh concerns that he is acting as a political functionary for Trump rather than in the traditionally more neutral role expected of an attorney general. Such suspicions were provoked by the way he intervened to ease the political sting of the Mueller report and the probes he has set up apparently to discredit previous investigations into 2016 election interference.

An election that is already tainted

The President's effort to discredit the election is not limited to his false and frequent claims that mail-in voting -- a reassuring option for many voters amid a pandemic that has killed more than 185,000 Americans so far -- is stained by massive fraud. The President has warned that the election will be the most corrupt in US history and said, without evidence, that Americans may never know who won. He also threatened to send US attorneys and sheriffs to polling places to ensure there is no fraud, a tactic that would be construed as voter intimidation, especially among minority voters given grim historic echoes.

Trump has no reservations about using the authority of the presidency to mess with democracy. After all, he was impeached for an audacious attempt to coerce a foreign power -- Ukraine -- into intervening in the election to hurt Biden's campaign. And he has consistently rejected his own intelligence agencies' assessments that Russia meddled in the 2016 election to help him -- once, infamously at the side of President Vladimir Putin.

View Trump and Biden head-to-head polling

Trump's latest attempt to cast doubt on the election comes as several new polls show he still trails Biden nationally, despite predictions by his campaign that convention season would dramatically narrow the gap. A new CNN/SSRS poll has Biden's lead steady at 8 points, 51% to 43% among registered voters. A Quinnipiac University survey has Trump down 10 points.

Whether the President is seeking to construct a face-saving exit from power if he loses in November or is mounting a more overt effort to stack the deck, one thing is clear: Given his fervent support among tens of millions of Americans, the election -- the bedrock of the country's democratic government and rule by the people for the people -- has already been deeply tarnished.

Trump's warning could spark chaos at polling places

Each time the President speaks about mail-in voting, which he distinguishes from absentee voting but is functionally the same, he introduces more doubt about the integrity of a system used without problems in many states.

He seemed to suggest in an interview with a local station in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Wednesday that people should vote once by mail, then show up at their polling place to see if their preference had been registered.

Deciphering the 'red mirage,' the 'blue shift,' and the uncertainty surrounding election results this November

"Well, they'll go out and they'll go vote, and they're going to have to go and check their vote by going to the poll and voting that way, because if it tabulates then they won't be able to do that," Trump said.

"So let them send it in, and let them go vote, and if the system is as good as they say it is, then obviously they won't be able to vote. If it isn't tabulated they won't be able to vote, so that's the way it is. And that's what they should do."

Trump's advice could lead to considerable chaos and recriminations at polling stations if it is followed by thousands of Republican voters. It could also lengthen the time that it takes for votes to be counted. Trump is already raising likely delays in tabulating results to claim, falsely, that the election is not secure.

There is also no current evidence to support his implication that significant numbers of mail-in votes could go astray or not be counted in the Tar Heel state. The North Carolina State Board of Elections says in voter advice on its website that there are "numerous safeguards" included in the absentee-by-mail voting process. It also says that if someone has "voted by absentee ballot and then shows up to vote in person, the check in system will alert the poll worker that the person has already voted."

Patrick Gannon, the board's public information officer, said people do not need to go to the polls on Election Day if their ballot has been counted.

"In fact, we'd strongly advise against that, to allow other people who haven't yet cast a ballot to vote."

Attorney General William Barr: 'I don't think there are two justice systems'

The state's Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein said he would do everything in his power to ensure the will of the people is upheld.

"President Trump outrageously encouraged NCians to break the law in order to help him sow chaos in our election. Make sure you vote, but do NOT vote twice!" Stein tweeted.

Voting arrangements, which vary from state to state, are often complicated and can confuse some voters. So at a minimum, it is irresponsible for a President, with all of his visibility and power, to repeatedly cast doubt on the system.

And more fundamentally, voting twice is illegal.

Barr appeared to support the President's inflammatory suggestion that North Carolinians should try to vote twice to test the system.

"So let them send it in by mail and let them go vote, let them send in the ballot, and then let them go vote. And if the system is as good as they say it is, then obviously they won't be able to vote," Barr said on "The Situation Room."

Long-term effects of a tainted election

Trump's constant claims that the election will not be free and fair threaten to leave deep damage whoever wins in November.

If he loses but claims he was cheated, Trump will delegitimize the result among millions of voters who backed him but who might accept a loss if he graciously conceded, as is expected of every defeated presidential candidate who puts nation above self. An election seen as stolen by Trump could have unpredictable effects among those who believe they were disenfranchised.

The appearance of a tainted election would also shatter hopes that a Biden administration might harbor of uniting a divided nation and of summoning national resolve to finally prevail over a pandemic that Trump mismanaged.

It would also sow distrust of elections on the right, potentially for decades, further fueling conspiratorial fringe groups like QAnon.

And it would all seem so unnecessary given the facts.

Why else are the inner council types of the party so calm and cool while their candidate for the highest office in the world goes full mental on live tv?
Why are you assuming the "inner council types" of the DNC are "calm and cool"? Given the wild flailing Joe Biden's DNC-run campaign is doing right now, I'm pretty sure those "inner council types" are panicking very hard.

Considering how every plan the DNC has cooked up in the last 4 years have blown up in their faces, I'm not concerned. Especially this year alone.

I definitely think they'll attempt fraud, but it won't work. They're over playing their hand atm. It'll be so blatant that the law will just take one look a the ballots and laugh.
It's a pretty funny narrative, though.

Despite having the entire media on their side and a monsterous campaign budget, the Democrats have lost the election to a fat reality TV star who most people thought was running as a joke. They failed to keep Neil Gorsuch off the Supreme Court, failed to keep Brett Kavanaugh off the Supreme Court, failed to secure a "Blue Wave", failed to keep idiots like AOC from dethroning a long-time Democrat that they'd been grooming for years to move up in the ranks, failed to nail Trump with Stormy Daniels, failed to keep Creepy Porn Lawyer out of prison, failed to keep Harvey Weinstein out of trouble, failed to keep Jeffrey Epstein from not killing himself, failed to succeed with the Mueller report and the impeachment sham.

They failed to keep the tensions high enough to keep us out of a peace agreement with North Korea, failed to keep the Paris Climate whatever alive, failed to keep NAFTA alive, failed to keep him from kicking Obamacare in the nuts by rescinding the Individual Mandate, failed to keep him from passing his tax cuts, failed to keep gun ownership from rocketing through the fucking stratosphere, failed to elect any candidate from their Peanut Gallery except the one guy whose brain is melting, and they're currently failing to keep their own cities from catching on fire while Joe Biden rambles around on stage and reads anything they put on a teleprompter--regardless of whether or not he's supposed to read that part--like he's Ron fucking Burgundy.

However, their mail-in voting fraud will be flawless and merciless and we're all doomed.

I get your optimism, but this is something that the GOP can't take a light stance on. Democrats are hungry for power and they have no standards. I don't think America can handle an election that is actually stolen, especially in today's climate.

I think people are worrying not about the mail-in voting fraud being "flawless", but that they get just enough cover from activist judges, activist ballot counters, sudden and unspecified "election emergencies", and the mainstream media, so that they can manufacture a win through them.

America can’t handle an election that *isn’t* stolen, but appears to be. Unless Barr finds a bunch of prepared ballots in Florida DNC headquarters this month, I don’t think we’ll see an uncontested election.

It seems like there has been a lot of panic regarding the 2020 election potentially being stolen by the Democrats. I think it's the article that predicts a Trump landslide but then a bunch of mail-in ballots giving Biden Harris the win.

The only thing we can do as private citizens is to get out there and vote in-person for Trump. The job to minimize election frauds lies on Trump's organization to take serious precaution regarding it. We can only hope that happens.

We might be waiting until December when the Electoral College voters convene for the final results.

Well with even external polling showing a slow but steady slide on the Biden campaign you can only assume that the DNC has its own internal polling show similar.

Ok, Biden is sliding in the polls so what does the DNC do?

Well...nothing really. A small obscure dialog event in a very weird setting (seriously, a ultra rich man setting wtf DNC?) then a token, heavily controlled, fast visit as a response to Trump's visit to Kenosha.

So where are all the democratic heavy hitters? Where is Saint Obama and her holiness Michell? Where is Harris, Pelosi, Shcumer, Bootygay and Yang? These are all "popular" democrats but none on them are talking about the campaign, none of them are doing events or public appearances or...well anything. Hell right now Bernie is doing more events then Biden with less them 60 days to go. They're doing zero Biden boosting across the board.

So why?

Are the Democrats just a bunch of stupid heads who don't understand that its looking more and more unlikely that they are going to win? I know everyone loves to shit on the DNC but really, are they that stupid they cant see the situation changing before them?

So rather then pulling out the big guns and regaining the momentum in the campaign they're doing nothing and even agreed to a face to face debate knowing that Biden will probably get crushed by Trump and see his numbers fall even more.

So again...why? Are they that stupid?

My guess is no...they just don't care that much about the campaign. They're spending as little as possible, doing as little as possible and saying as little as possible. Hell their slogan is literally "vote blue no matter who". As long as the blue drones vote they'll have a solid base but then comes the mail in ballots.

Judging from the utter lack of effort being put into the campaign I can only assume two things

1. They're already given up. know that Biden will crash and bern and they're saving everything for 2024 (unlikely IMHO)

2. They know something that everyone else doesn't. IE: that Biden will win no matter what the 1st day voting will show. And that's what I currently believe. They will use the mail in ballots to tilt any necessary swing districts to Biden's favor. As the media has been hammering over and over and over that 1st night outcomes wont mean anything. So that way when the democrats declare Biden won after 2 or more months of trickle in ballots the public is just accept it as all legit.

As long as anyone can submit a mail in ballot anonymously Trump is in major danger of losing and America is in danger of increased strife as Trump supporters will react with rage if he wins on Election Night then slowly loses over several months. (if Trump wins the democrats and their lapdogs will rage/riot no matter what so we can discount that).

So I'll ask again..why are they doing nothing while Biden slowly loses everything?

If Trump made vote by mail the default it would give Democrats with the infrastructure for ballot harvesting an advantage. They know how to cheat this way. Its pretty obvious.

You drastically overestimate how "in-touch", forward thinking, and competent the DNC is.

Again

It doesn't need hundreds of thousands of people; at most, it only needs maybe a few dozen people in critical swing states or districts to conveniently "lose" ballots or "accidentally" drop a few hundred of them in the shredder, all of which just so happened to be marked for Republicans.

While it might not take literally hundreds of thousands of people to rig election in this way, it would take a significant infrastructure to pull out this kind of voter fraud, not just handful of people like you describe, if you're really thinking about it logically. Then again, it's just a question of how much money someone can invest in to making it happen, and in keeping it secret. Do you believe Democrats have that much money?

My gut feeling of this is that the Democrats know that they're going to lose big time, and all this whining about the issue is just a build-up that will be used to justify the inevitable moment when they're not going to accept the result. Of course that changes nothing, but at least they can REEE for the next four years that their defeat was actually not their fault.

It's probably a good idea to archive that part of the interview on here, now that I think about it. It was seventeen-hundred ballots, by the way, not seventeen thousand. Still bad, but not county-destroying bad.
Can anyone find this case? I’ll I can find are progressive sites claiming it never happened.
I can't even trust my mail man to properly close my mailbox. You really expect me to trust him with my vote?
Can we trade mailmen? Mine listens to erotic audiobooks on full blast.

Over the last three months, there's been like five cases of tens of thousands of obviously bunk mail-in votes found in the hands of curiously high-level Congressional Dems. They're going to do everything they can to pull this shit, and if they somehow lose to a sufficient degree that they get absolutely curb-stomped, you can expect them to do anything and then some to declare they won anyway.

It should go about as well as their previous attempts, really.

A family member of mine put forward the theory that one of the Dem's plans is to make things so delayed and questionable that the final election results won't be announced until end of January or February 2021, after the President would have to leave the White House, thus causing a situation where we would have no elected President yet and allowing the Speaker of the House (Nancy Pelosi) to step in to the position "temporarily" until election results are finalized and a winner called. I don't know how realistic a plan like that would be, but it's terrifying to think abour and I wouldn't put it past the Dems to try something like that.

The problem with that is the precedent set when the Dems challenged Dubya over Gore in 2000 is that as you get close and closer to Inauguration, the continuity of government takes precedent over the legal remedy, even if it's "correct". They put a stop to the endless "do it again until we get a win" recounting of ballots because they said "any order to do anything with them at this point would be by nature unconstitutional because it would CAUSE there to be no President. The last verifiable count (election night) stands" So it's pretty obvious, to me anyway, that if we get that deep into it, a winner is going to be "declared" before any succession of office even becomes an issue.

If Trump wins on Election Night, but the mail in ballots throw it the other way and are questioned, and challenges to them drag on and on and on, the ultimate "remedy" is that they get not accepted or thrown out, per se, but left in limbo the same way a term paper may simply be marked "incomplete" if it isn't turned in on time, whether it was "A" or "D" material is irrelevant, we can't count it now, grades are due in.

Unless someone nakedly decides to just fuck precedent and risk a Civil War.

Who knows what actually will happen, but, the way it SHOULD go has already been laid out to those who believe in rule of law over tribal politics.
