It's looking like the Democrats may shut down this movement to avoid further negative PR. The case against Derek Chauvin is looking more and more shaky, let alone the cases against the other officers. There's a good chance Kyle Rittenhouse will walk as well. Even black community leaders are now speaking against defunding police because of the massive increase in violence their neighborhoods have seen since policing was cut back.
If the BLM protest movement fizzles without much change to policing, what will happen to the woke culture? Someone correctly pointed out that George Floyd marked a kind of Rubicon crossing for SJWs. They decided their ideology had picked enough steam they could organize to physically intimidate the rest of the population into following their ideals. For a while it seemed to be working but now it's falling apart.
They can't compromise, it goes against their grain on the deepest level. If any of them try to moderate the message, even just for PR purposes, they're blasted for advocating "respectability politics." You have to follow the whims of the most unhinged freaks in the movement or you're an evil oppressor.
The woke ideological vanguard used to be cloistered inside universities writing for weird journals. Most people had no idea they existed. Then they spilled onto the internet and started taking over online communities. If you were into certain geeky hobbies or on certain discussion groups they were a terror, if not you might hear some weird jargon about checking your privilege once in a while. They took over the media, academia and the tech industry and normal people started feeling the heat, but it was still possible to avoid them. Now they've taken to the streets and invaded most people's day to day lives.
Gamergate was the first time that the progressive culture was rebuked in the public square. It was just a group of neckbeards denying them, but it still registered as a generational trauma that got mentioned in every article about the evil right-wing movement. It was their Vietnam. If they get denied again, not just by a group of shitposters but by the US general public and the Democratic party, what will they do?
