That's an artifact from 100 years ago, when college was the priviledge of the rich, and you could get the least useful degree in the world which would be worth more than a trade because college was a proof of being in nobility. In Europe it's the same thing, in my country parents told me and my pals 20 years ago to get whatever college degree because during Communism, ironically, college degree was a pass to better work. Now, plumbers and masons earn 2-3x as much as college graduates which I find pretty funny in a bitter way. And don't get me started on programmers.

Social Sciences are actually quite useful. And no, I don't mean "Gender Studies" or something like that. Pyschology, political science, sociology all uncover and root through what makes up humanity. Things which can't be tested and quantified as readily or easily as the STEM degrees.

Edit: Also, ironic that someone would invoke IQ, then say the social sciences are bullshit. IQ.... comes from the social sciences. Its a product of them.

I'd like to point out that there's a positive correlation between high IQ score and high personal income. IQ tests test your capacity for abstract thinking. Y'know, things like math, philosophy, analytical skills, pattern recognition...
I agree there are "different types of intelligence". You can be an intelligent shoemaker, fencer, bridge builder but be a stupid doctor, geologist or parent at the same time. There are no "different types of IQ" however, because IQ is an approximation of a person's ability for abstract thinking. Intelligent abstract thinkers tend to be, most of the time, intelligent businessmen, mathematicians, analysts and philosophers.
To be a good doctor you don't really need to be good at thinking on your feet. You only need a great memory to remember biology and drug details. I saw many doctors who, while knowing a lot about their field, were rather rock-headed when it came to thinking outside the box.
Intelligence in general IMO is the ability to think outside the box and come up with ideas that no one could come up with.

I'm surprised they hadn't done it earlier considering the banning of Alex Jones, the purging of the problematic subreddits, the sale of 4chan by moot. The crusade against "hate speech" by Facebook. The banning of "conspiracy theories" by Youtube. If I wanted a groupthink internet and media, you'd think 4chan would be the first on the chopping block really.

It is my understanding from following many evopsych types and a bit of reading that there is literally no actual consensus on inherent IQ differences between races, largely because it has not been properly studied (yeah I know Minnesota twin studies blah blah they're not enough). I have not been able to find any credible academic who is actually able to say outright 'yes, there are inherent differences in intelligence between races.' They all say, at most, 'there may be inherent differences in intelligence between races, but we haven't been able to, and may not be able to, properly study this to come to a concrete conclusion.' IQ as heritable is scientific consensus, for sure, but it's not enough to draw racial conclusions.

If somebody wants to convince me of a need for segregation, I'm amenable to cultural or aesthetic arguments, on which there are much better grounds to argue. I think anyone who asserts that races are inherently smarter/dumber is asserting something they wouldn't be able to prove if pushed. Emphasis on inherent is because it is obvious that on average different ethnic groups are smarter than others at any given time, but the question is one of potential.

If you're talking US academics then I'm not suprised. Challenging anything about the IQ/race difference in US academia is a recipe for career suicide.
How IQ differences work: if you'd select individuals from both race A and race B by IQ score >110 and calculate percentage, you'd find x% members of race A have IQ>110 and y% members of race B have IQ>110. Thus, if x%>y%, you'd conclude that race A has, on average, higher IQ than race B (and vice versa).
Do you agree that intelligence is heritable? How come all those enlightened academics say "there may be inherent differences in intelligence between..." when shithead Medieval midwives already could note that smarter parents have, usually, smarter kids? If muscle/bone/face structure and height is heritable, how come brain structure/neural count isn't?
